Racing Incident Report
Race Two: (808) - BRIAR HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1650Meters
On arrival at the Start, H N Wong expressed concern regarding the action of JUMBO ENGINE.
JUMBO ENGINE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse was lame in both front legs and accordingly was not suitable to race.
Acting on this advice, JUMBO ENGINE was withdrawn by order of the Stewards.
Before being allowed to race again, JUMBO ENGINE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
VICTORIOUS LEADER and KA FORTUNE bumped at the start.
HAPPY JAI JAI began awkwardly.
SMART HUNTER got its head up on jumping and then after a short distance was hampered when crowded for room outside SUPER KIN.
AMAZING BOY was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, HAPPY JAI JAI got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied to obtain cover behind KA FORTUNE.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, EVEN KEEL was left racing wide and without cover and after the 1200 Metres was allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead.
Approaching the 250 Metres, SEIZE THE SPIRIT was crowded for room inside EVEN KEEL which was taken in when bumped by SUPER KIN (B Shinn) which shifted in when being ridden along.
SUPER KIN then shifted in further near the 150 Metres, resulting in EVEN KEEL racing in restricted room between that horse and SEIZE THE SPIRIT.
B Shinn was severely reprimanded and told that in future he would be expected to make more endeavour than he did on this occasion to prevent his mounts from shifting ground.
Passing the 150 Metres, SEIZE THE SPIRIT shifted in marginally, resulting in CALIFORNIA LEGEND, which was commencing to give ground, momentarily racing in restricted room inside that horse.
After the race, H W Lai (AFTER ME) explained that his mount did not travel strongly at any stage of the race and in the Straight failed to finish off its race.
A veterinary inspection of AFTER ME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Also after the race, K Teetan reported that VIVA CHEF, which was stepping up to the distance of tonight's race for the first time, travelled too keenly throughout the race and because of this was not able to close off.

KA FORTUNE and SEIZE THE SPIRIT were sent for sampling.

Favourite Ka Fortune won going away 20m out after a well-executed ride one off in midfield. It was his maiden win but the writing had been on the wall in recent runs. Seize The Spirt found one just too good after reclaiming the front near the 100m after handing up to California Legend 1,200m out. He's always a chance at this level. Victorious Leader ran on steadily from behind midfield to fill a placing. He can bob up now and then. Super Kin came up one-paced after nearly drawing level 200m out following a prominent run. He had every chance and was once again costly for punters. Even Keel stayed on all right after working forward three deep without cover to eventually sit outside the leader 1,000m out. He's shown a bit more spark in this grade but is limited. California Legend tamely faded over the final 150m after easily clearing to the lead 1,200m out from a wide draw. He's just not the same horse nowadays. Specked late, Happy Jai Jai made some ground without menacing from towards the rear despite a stable change. He might want an even further trip. Rank outsider Jumbo Engine was withdrawn by order of the stewards on the advice of the veterinarian.
