Recap by phillip woo

For Fun's Sake quickened nicely to take control 50m out after enjoying a lovely run on the fence in midfield for a maiden win at his 23rd start. He's come right with solid efforts on both surfaces in his past three starts after joining trainer Chris So Wai-yin and there's likely another win in store. Favourite Telecom Missile closed very well to finish a clearcut second travelling one from the rear after bombing the start yet again. He's made a good impression in back-to-back runs after a switch to Caspar Fownes but will need to get his act together at the start. Wayfoong Star closed strongly to fill a placing after biding his time at the rear of the field. It was clearly his best run to date trying the dirt for the first time. Winning Strikes kept on to finish a non-threatening fourth after finding the front from a middle draw. He's shown shades of progress following a downgrade. Dollar Reward produced only a grinding effort following a one-off run in midfield. The combination of a wet track and a big weight seemed to work against him. Alloy King had every chance following a box-seat run. He didn't handle the surface.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (748) - TING KAU HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1200Meters

A Hamelin (ALLOY KING) was fined the sum of $2,000 for failing to present himself in the Parade Ring by the required time.

At the time of declaration, C Y Ho notified a probable overweight of 2 lbs in respect of EVER STRONG's allocated weight of 116 lbs.

C Y Ho then weighed in an additional 1 lb overweight, resulting in Jockey Ho weighing in 3 lbs over the horse's allocated weight.

Jockey Ho was fined the sum of $7,500.

As the start was effected, TELECOM MISSILE bounded in the air and consequently lost ground.

As this was the second consecutive occasion that the horse has been slow to begin, the Stewards ruled that prior to being permitted to race again, TELECOM MISSILE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.

JUMBO ENGINE shifted out at the start and bumped WINNING STRIKES.

THE ELITES began only fairly.

WAYFOONG STAR was steadied in the early stages from a wide barrier to obtain cover.

Near the 1000 Metres, THE ELITES and TELECOM MISSILE bumped, causing both horses to become unbalanced.

Near the 800 Metres, TELECOM MISSILE lost ground when crowded for room between DOLLAR REWARD which shifted out marginally and JUMBO ENGINE which was taken in by FOCUS (J Moreira) which, when being ridden along, got its head on the side and lay in away from COOL ACE.

J Moreira was told that whilst the Stewards accepted that FOCUS was laying in, nonetheless in similar circumstances he would be expected to make every endeavour at the earliest available opportunity to take sufficient measures to prevent his horses from shifting ground.

Passing the 800 Metres, SUPREME PATROL raced tight outside FOCUS which shifted out.

At the 500 Metres, FOCUS was awkwardly placed outside the heels of DOLLAR REWARD which shifted out.

Near the 350 Metres, C Schofield (TELECOM MISSILE) momentarily dropped his left rein.

Throughout the race, SUPREME PATROL travelled wide and without cover.

After the race, it was reported that ALLOY KING had lost its left front plate.

Also after the race, J Moreira stated that FOCUS did not handle the All Weather track today at its first time of asking in a race.

He said he had to ride FOCUS continually in the early stages to take up a forward position as instructed and at no stage of the race did the horse travel comfortably.

He said when racing wide and without cover, FOCUS was always under pressure and commenced to give ground near the 500 Metres and after this weakened out of the race noticeably.

A veterinary inspection of FOCUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of FOCUS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, FOCUS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of EVER STRONG immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that THE ELITES was displaying signs of heat stress.

Before being allowed to race again, THE ELITES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

FOR FUN'S SAKE and TELECOM MISSILE were sent for sampling.
