Recap by phillip woo
Panfield outstayed Columbus County after hitting the front 200m out following a oneout, one-back run. He was an unlucky third two back in the Derby and this stamps him as the new star of the staying ranks. Well-backed Columbus County came to win the race 200m out after biding his time third from the rear but couldn't get by the winner. He's one of the best stayers in town but found one better on this occasion. Favourite Exultant finished up a non-threatening third after surging to the front 300m out stalking the leader Time Warp. He's a touch below his best now. Butterfield ran on steadily from midfield to fill the frame. It was another positive performance at set weights following wins in two of his past three starts. Glorious Dragon came up one-paced after a box-seat run. He didn't quite get the trip. Russian Emperor ran on without menacing after biding his time second from the rear. He's disappointed in back-to-back runs after a near win in the Derby and it's back to the drawing board with him. Packing Waltham never posed a threat after making his run at the back of the pack. He had class issues at set weights here.
