Recap by phillip woo

Despite copping a hard bump 100m out, President Star still got up in the last stride after peeling into the open rounding the final bend following a one-off run in midfield for a maiden success at his 13th start. He was able to live up to an improved effort last start over the Valley 1,800m. Treasure Chest crossed Indigenous Star for the lead, established a three-length advantage rounding the final bend and was just nabbed on the wire. He was able to back up a good effort on the weekend. Galaxy Racer came on nicely following a one-off run in midfield to make it close on the wire. He relished a return to the Valley 1,650m. Humble Steed ran on reasonably well down the outside to finish a distant fourth after a patient ride second from the rear. It was a much-improved effort on his opening three runs this term. Virtus Star got going from behind midfield to earn a minor cheque. It was another honest effort. Firming favourite Baby Storm couldn't keep a straight line while yielding ground over the final 100m following a speed-chasing run. He couldn't back up a last-start win carrying more weight.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (413) - PRIMULA ;HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1650Meters

GLENEALY PALS began awkwardly.

On jumping, GALAXY RACER got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover.

HUMBLE STEED shifted out at the start and bumped ENJOYABLE SUCCESS.

HUMBLE STEED then got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied to obtain cover from a wide barrier.

Also from the outside barrier, ENJOYABLE SUCCESS was shifted across behind runners.

LUCKY TURBO was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.

After travelling a short distance, MANY GAINS and TREASURE CHEST bumped.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, GLENEALY PALS was awkwardly placed inside the heels of MANY GAINS.

After the 1200 Metres, INDIGENOUS STAR was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TREASURE CHEST.

For some distance after the 1100 Metres, PRESIDENT STAR was steadied away from the heels of BABY STORM (J Moreira) which shifted in when not properly clear.

J Moreira was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he gives sufficient clearance in similar circumstances.

After the 600 Metres, MANY GAINS was bumped and taken wider by GLENEALY PALS (C Soumillon) which shifted out from behind INDIGENOUS STAR.

GLENEALY PALS then got its head on the side and made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly, resulting in MANY GAINS again being bumped.

C Soumillon was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

Rounding the Home Turn, VIRTUS STAR raced tight outside GALAXY RACER which shifted to the outside of INDIGENOUS STAR.

Approaching the 400 Metres, ENJOYABLE SUCCESS was awkwardly placed behind HUMBLE STEED when being shifted to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running.

In the early part of the Straight, VIRTUS STAR was awkwardly placed behind GLENEALY PALS.

Then after being shifted in in an attempt to obtain clear running inside GLENEALY PALS passing the 300 Metres, VIRTUS STAR was then directed to the outside of GLENEALY PALS passing the 250 Metres after being disappointed for running inside that horse.

This resulted in VIRTUS STAR being awkwardly placed close to the heels of GLENEALY PALS approaching the 200 Metres.

Passing the 300 Metres, GALAXY RACER raced tight inside the heels of WONDERFUL TIGER which got its head on the side and shifted in away from PRESIDENT STAR.

Passing the 200 Metres, ENJOYABLE SUCCESS was shifted out away from the heels of HUMBLE STEED.

Approaching the 100 Metres, PRESIDENT STAR and BABY STORM bumped as a result of BABY STORM shifting out marginally and PRESIDENT STAR (V Borges) shifting in.

In this incident, BABY STORM bumped the hindquarters of PRESIDENT STAR which became further unbalanced and shifted in abruptly, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced and BABY STORM losing ground.

As the Stewards were of the opinion that V Borges had stopped riding and corrected his mount prior to the contact between the two horses and that the incident had been exacerbated by PRESIDENT STAR shifting in abruptly after being bumped on the hindquarters, they took no further action other than to advise Jockey Borges to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.

When questioned, K C Leung (WONDERFUL TIGER) stated that, from barrier 10, he was asked to ride the horse positively in the early stages and obtain a position behind the leaders if possible.

He said it was explained to him that at its last start WONDERFUL TIGER proved difficult to settle and because of this was not able to finish off the race and therefore the connections of WONDERFUL TIGER did not want the horse getting too far out of its ground.

He said after shifting across behind the speed approaching and passing the winning post on the first occasion, he attempted to take a trailing position behind MANY GAINS, however, VIRTUS STAR maintained its position and this resulted in WONDERFUL TIGER being left in a three wide position outside MANY GAINS after passing the winning post on the first occasion.

He said when BABY STORM improved to be racing outside TREASURE CHEST after the 1200 Metres, this resulted in WONDERFUL TIGER being left racing wide and without cover near the 1100 Metres.

He added as WONDERFUL TIGER was travelling keenly and as the rider of BABY STORM did not appear intent on continuing forward on that horse, he allowed WONDERFUL TIGER to improve its position to race outside the lead after the 800 Metres.

A veterinary inspection of WONDERFUL TIGER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BABY STORM, J Moreira stated that after being crossed by WONDERFUL TIGER approaching the 700 Metres, he had to ride his mount along in an endeavour to maintain its position.

He said after this BABY STORM travelled only fairly and came under heavy pressure passing the 400 Metres.

He said BABY STORM gave him a limited response in the early part of the Straight and when his mount became badly unbalanced approaching the 100 Metres, BABY STORM was staying on only fairly.

He added that after becoming unbalanced, BABY STORM then gave ground over the final 100 Metres.

He said whilst BABY STORM was hampered over the latter stages of the race, nonetheless, in his opinion, the horse was disappointing in tonight's race.

A veterinary inspection of BABY STORM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of INDIGENOUS STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

BABY STORM, PRESIDENT STAR and TREASURE CHEST were sent for sampling.
