Colonel drew clear after hitting the front 200m out chasing the leader Very Sweet Orange on the fence. He relished a switch to the Valley after three pipe-openers this season at Sha Tin. Winning Ways just held on for the quinella spot after moving to second 50m out following a rails run in midfield. He goes best over this course and took full advantage of a better draw. Here Comes Ted got going late from beyond midfield to just miss second. It was another good effort carrying more weight following a win. Yee Cheong Warrior ran on well to finish a close fourth after biding his time among the backmarkers. It was a much better performance. Top Military had his chance after a one-off run better than midfield. He's limited. Magic Supreme came up flat following a prominent run on the fence and his only victory was also achieved on a rain-affected surface. Super Kin ran on without menacing from towards the rear.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (178) - SAI YING PUN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

YEE CHEONG WARRIOR began only fairly, then shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of COLONEL (V Borges), resulting in YEE CHEONG WARRIOR losing ground and COLONEL becoming unbalanced.

In this incident, V Borges momentarily lost the use of his left stirrup iron.

SUPER KIN shifted out at the start and made contact with the hindquarters of LIGHT OF WANSHI.

SUPER KIN was then crowded for room between LIGHT OF WANSHI and COUNTRY BOY.

After this, COUNTRY BOY and SUPER KIN were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

WINNING WAYS began awkwardly and then, despite being ridden along in the early stages, was slow to muster speed.

From the outside barrier, SUPER EIGHTEEN was steadied shortly after the start and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.

After the 1000 Metres, ALLOY KING travelled keenly and when being steadied to obtain cover behind COLONEL near the 850 Metres shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of that horse, resulting in COLONEL becoming unbalanced.

ALLOY KING then continued to travel keenly and proved difficult to steady to obtain cover behind COLONEL.

As ALLOY KING was shifting across behind COLONEL, TOP MILITARY was shifted out away from the heels of that horse passing the 700 Metres, resulting in LIGHT OF WANSHI being taken wider.

TOP MILITARY was again awkwardly placed close to the heels of ALLOY KING approaching the 600 Metres.

HERE COMES TED, which was following TOP MILITARY, lay in away from the heels of that horse, resulting in YEE CHEONG WARRIOR racing in restricted room passing the 600 Metres.

In the early part of the Straight, COLONEL got its head on the side and lay in.

Throughout the race, LIGHT OF WANSHI travelled wide and without cover.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on WINNING WAYS at the request of Trainer C S Shum.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, WINNING WAYS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of VERY SWEET ORANGE, LIGHT OF WANSHI and ALLOY KING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

HERE COMES TED, COLONEL and WINNING WAYS were sent for sampling.
