Racing Incident Report
Race Four: (772) - CHEUNG CHAU HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters
SMOOTHIES was withdrawn on 26.6.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter E STAR (J Moreira).
Before being allowed to race again, SMOOTHIES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
As N Callan was unable to fulfil the engagement on TELECOM ELITE due to being overweight, M Chadwick was substituted as the rider of that horse.
N Callan was fined the sum of $5,000.
TOM'S STYLE shifted in at the start and bumped E STAR, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
STYLING CITY and PRINCE OF FROG bumped at the start.
After this, PRINCE OF FROG was steadied from a wide barrier and shifted across behind runners.
ORIENTAL AMIGO began only fairly and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Despite being vigorously ridden for some distance in the early stages, SMART LEADER failed to muster speed.
Passing the 1000 Metres, BRIGHT VISION was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of TELECOM ELITE which shifted in before being directed out to relieve the tightening to BRIGHT VISION.
After the 800 Metres, STYLING CITY was left racing wide and without cover.
Also after the 800 Metres, SMART LEADER was left racing wide and without cover and then got its head on the side and lay out in the middle stages and rounding the Home Turn.
Approaching the 500 Metres, TAKE WHAT YOU NEED raced tight outside TOTAL EXCESS which shifted to the outside of TOM'S STYLE.
A veterinary inspection of HARDLY SWEARS and TOM'S STYLE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
E STAR and SMART LEADER were sent for sampling.

A late-addition to the race, E Star let down nicely to just edge Smart Leader for the win after peeling off the fence 300m out following a rail run fourth from the rear. He loves this Sha Tin trip. Favourite Smart Leader lost the win just as fast as he found the front metres from the wire following a deep run in midfield. Plunged late Flying Bonus was swamped late after cornering two lengths on top leading from the widest gate. He's not reliable but isn't easy to run down if he gets his own way in front. Temple Of Heaven closed well after a deep run fifth from the rear to fill the frame. It was an eye-catching run on debut and he'll get a longer trip when the penny drops. Take What You Need came up one-paced after working hard from a wide gate to track the speed. He rarely produces a bad run but has trouble winning. Total Excess came up flat following a prominent run. He had every chance but was only stepping out for the second time.
