Long-timer leader California Gungho got his own way in front and kept finding when the favourite and stablemate Mig Energy came at him 100m to land a betting plunge. He relished the wet track. Mig Energy came to win the race after a midfield run on the fence but couldn't get by the winner. He's a winner waiting to happen. Unique Treasure had to switch inside the leader for a clear run at the 150m following a box-seat run but never looked like catching the top pair. Happy Alumni came from near last to fill the frame. He's racing well but constantly gets too far back in his races. President's Choice ran on without menacing after making his run fourth from the back. He's found things harder following a rise in class. Be Ready came up one-paced after a prominent run. He seems to be more effective at the Valley. Thunder Stomp had little left in the tank 300m out after stalking the leader. He's a one-trick pony over the Valley 1,650m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eleven: (748) - THE IP JUG (HANDICAP) - Class 3 - 1200Meters

GRANDMA WIN was withdrawn on 11.6.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (left front tendon re-injury) and was replaced by first Standby Declared Starter PRIVATE COUNCIL.

LUMEN BABA was also withdrawn on 11.6.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by second Standby Declared Starter CALIFORNIA GUNGHO.

Before being allowed to race again, GRANDMA WIN and LUMEN BABA will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

PRIVATE COUNCIL shifted out at the start and bumped HELAKU KNIGHT which in turn shifted out, causing HAPPY FORTUNE to lose ground when crowded for room.

SWIFT SPIRIT began only fairly and shifted out towards the heels of BE READY, causing that horse to lose ground.

In the early stages, HAPPY ALUMNI got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied to obtain cover.

Near the 1150 Metres, MIG ENERGY was bumped by UNIQUE TREASURE which received contact from THUNDER STOMP.

After the 1100 Metres, HELAKU KNIGHT got its head up when travelling keenly.

HELAKU KNIGHT then raced greenly in the early stages and made the turn near the 900 Metres awkwardly.

HELAKU KNIGHT continued to race greenly and shifted ground on a number of occasions in the Straight,.

Approaching the 1000 Metres, MIG ENERGY was steadied away from the heels of UNIQUE TREASURE which got its head on the side and lay in.

PRESIDENT'S CHOICE made the turn near the 900 Metres awkwardly and got its head on the side and shifted out after being brushed by PRIVATE COUNCIL.

Passing the 400 Metres, THUNDER STOMP was brushed by UNIQUE TREASURE which shifted out to obtain clear running.

HAPPY ALUMNI shifted in under pressure after the 100 Metres.

Throughout the race, URBAN DANCER travelled wide and without cover.

CALIFORNIA GUNGHO and MIG ENERGY were sent for sampling.

After the running of Race 4, the track classification for the turf course was officially changed from "Good??to "Good to Firm?? This change in the opinion of the Stewards should be recorded as being retrospective.

As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 4 being run on a track rated "Good to Firm??

10 June 2020 Happy Valley Racemeeting - Race 9 (737) The Stewards today interviewed H T Mo regarding his riding of BALTIC SUCCESS in this race.

H T Mo stated that he was asked to give the horse a good warm-up behind the barriers and to obtain a forward position either in the lead or outside the lead if possible.

He said this was consistent with the manner in which the horse had previously been ridden.

He said BALTIC SUCCESS began only fairly and then was inconvenienced by STRONGER which shifted out.

He said he rode his mount along after this to obtain a forward position, however, BALTIC SUCCESS did not show as much early speed as had previously been the case.

He said this required him to ride BALTIC SUCCESS along vigorously for a considerable distance in the early stages to improve his position.

He said approaching the 600 Metres he was able to improve his position to race outside the hindquarters of STRONGER but in a four wide position.

He said he was not able to clear STRONGER to his inside and this resulted in BALTIC SUCCESS racing very wide and without cover.

He added then in the early part of the Straight BALTIC SUCCESS came under heavy pressure and gave ground over the concluding stages.

H T Mo was severely reprimanded regarding his riding of BALTIC SUCCESS.

He was placed on notice that the lack of initiative and judgement that he had shown on BALTIC SUCCESS in this race was of considerable concern to the Stewards as it fell well short of what is required of a jockey riding in Hong Kong.

He was told he had ridden BALTIC SUCCESS poorly as there was a clear opportunity for him to obtain cover behind STRONGER approaching the 600 Metres given that he had had to ride the horse aggressively for the previous 300 Metres which would have availed it of the opportunity to race with cover rather than being required to race four wide and without cover.

Jockey Mo was advised that a repeat of this type of riding may result in his suitability to continue riding in Hong Kong being reviewed.
