Recap by phillip woo

Ka Ying Legend reclaimed the lead entering the straight after handing up the lead to First Responder 950m out and drew clear for a comfortable win. He had made a good impression in his opening two runs this term. Eligere came on nicely to finish a clear-cut second after working into the open 300m out following a rail run behind midfield. Star Luck kept on well for a placing after a wide run with cover in midfield. He's a winner waiting to happen with placings in four straight runs. Nordic Warrior came from near the back to fill the frame without ever looking like catching the placegetters. He can bob up now and then. La Yakfi ran on travelling fourth from the rear to pick up some prize money. It was a better effort second-up with a step back to 1,200m. Ping Hai Bravo came up flat following a prominent run. He didn't appear to handle the wet going carrying 10 pounds more following a last-start win.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine: (553) - HOMESTEAD HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

WISDOM PATCH was withdrawn on 4.4.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (coughing).

Before being allowed to race again, WISDOM PATCH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

When proceeding to the barriers, G van Niekerk was dislodged from ELIGERE without incident.

On arrival at the Start, ELIGERE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race.

SACRED IBIS began only fairly and then stumbled shortly after the start.

Then despite being ridden along for some distance, SACRED IBIS became detached from the field in the early stages.

STAR LUCK shifted in at the start and inconvenienced LA YAKFI.

MAGIC SUPREME made the turn after the 900 Metres awkwardly.

Then passing the 800 Metres, MAGIC SUPREME was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KA YING LEGEND.

Throughout the race, BIG FORTUNE travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PING HAI BRAVO, J Moreira stated that he was able to obtain a good position behind the speed in the early stages.

He said after shifting to the outside of FIRST RESPONDER at the entrance to the Straight, PING HAI BRAVO did not quicken as it had previously when ridden by him which he attributed to the horse not appreciating the loose surface.

He said although fully tested in the Straight, PING HAI BRAVO did not finish off the race as anticipated.

A veterinary inspection of PING HAI BRAVO immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

The performance of PING HAI BRAVO, a last start winner and favourite for today's race, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, PING HAI BRAVO will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of STAY CHILL and BIG FORTUNE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

PING HAI BRAVO, KA YING LEGEND and ELIGERE were sent for sampling.
