Recap by phillip woo
Second favourite Beauty Generation kept on gamely for the win after cruising to the front near the 150m for back-to-back wins. He hasn't been as dominant as he was last season but is still very good. Punted late Ka Ying Star stuck on well after getting his own way in front to just hold Southern Legend for second. He's capable of big runs but keeps finding one or a few too good at this level. Southern Legend came to win the race 200m out after a one-out, one-back run but found a couple just too smart. He seems to have appreciated a break in Conghua. Furore got going late to fill the frame after making his run second from the rear. It wasn't a bad run following a stable change. He's more effective over a longer trip. Odds-on favourite Waikuku did not fire after edging forward to race box-seat coming to the final bend. He ran flat in his first start following a win in January's Stewards' Cup.
