Recap by phillip woo

Old-timer Time Warp had enough left in the tank to hold off stablemate Exultant for the win after getting away with slow early fractions in front. Raging favourite Exultant was eating up the ground down the outside but spotted the winner too much of a head start in a slow race. It was a good run in defeat. Citron Spirit stayed on nicely travelling better than midfield to fill a placing. He doesn't know how to run a bad race. Dark Dream kept plugging away to finish a non-threatening fourth after getting all favours in the box seat. Eagle Way ran on without menacing after a rail run worse than midfield. He was another not suited by the race tempo. Furore never fired after making his run third from the rear. The pace didn't suit but he's failed to take his game to a new level after winning the Derby last year. Brown-lamped in betting Doctor Geoff didn't fire following a midfield run. He's more effective at 1,800m. Glorious Dragon cost himself after bombing the start.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (421) - THE CITI HONG KONG GOLD CUP - Class G1 - 2000Meters

As the start was effected, GLORIOUS DRAGON reared and was consequently slow to begin.

Before being allowed to race again, GLORIOUS DRAGON will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

EXULTANT began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped FURORE.

After this, EXULTANT, FURORE and NORTHERN SUPERSTAR were all shifted across behind runners from the outside barriers to obtain cover.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, EXULTANT got its head up on a number of occasions and proved very difficult to settle when being steadied to obtain cover behind DOCTOR GEOFF.

Passing the 1700 Metres, NORTHERN SUPERSTAR was steadied to obtain cover behind FURORE when travelling wide and without cover.

Passing the 1600 Metres, EXULTANT travelled keenly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DOCTOR GEOFF.

Passing the 1100 Metres, EXULTANT was taken wider by EAGLE WAY which shifted away from the rail.

EXULTANT was then steadied to obtain cover behind EAGLE WAY.

Passing the 400 Metres, DOCTOR GEOFF and CITRON SPIRIT raced tight as CITRON SPIRIT improved into running between DOCTOR GEOFF and SOUTHERN LEGEND.

After the race, EAGLE WAY was reported to be making an abnormal breathing noise.

An endoscopic examination of EAGLE WAY did not reveal any significant findings, however, the horse had previously been reported to be a "roarer?? After the race, Z Purton (EXULTANT) stated that he had to go back in the field from an awkward barrier.

He added that the slow pace of the race through the early stages did not suit EXULTANT.

A veterinary inspection of NORTHERN SUPERSTAR and GLORIOUS DRAGON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

TIME WARP and EXULTANT were sent for sampling.
