Recap by phillip woo

Suited by the pace, Flying Quest dashed strongly from the rear of the field to get up in the dying stages for a second win from his past three starts. He loves the Valley mile. Magnificent kept on very well after getting pestered for the front by the late-plunged Solar Wai Wai. He's well rated on a win last season off a slightly higher mark. Favourite Charizard got up a non-threatening third after a midfield run on the fence. It was another honest effort but the big weight was too much to overcome. Solar Wai Wai grudgingly gave way after pressuring the leader. It was a return to form at his third run this term and first over the Valley mile. Punted late Clear Choice kept on evenly following a one-out, one-back run. He's more effective in Class Four. Old-timer Travel First made some ground late after making his run fourth from the back. It was a better second-up effort but is still too high in the handicaps. All You Know came up one-paced.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (224) - LONGINES INTERNATIONAL JOCKEYS' CHAMPIONSHIP (HANDICAP) - Class 3 - 1650Meters

MAGNIFICENT shifted out at the start and bumped CROWN AVENUE.

CHARIZARD began awkwardly and then lost ground when heavily bumped by HOME MADE which was taken in by TRAVEL FIRST which, after beginning awkwardly, shifted in after being bumped by BEAUTY DAY.

This resulted in HOME MADE and TRAVEL FIRST losing ground.

From wide barriers, FLYING QUEST and PAKISTAN FRIEND were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After travelling a short distance, SOLAR WAI WAI raced tight outside CLEAR CHOICE which shifted out after being brushed by CROWN AVENUE.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, SOLAR WAI WAI raced tight between CLEAR CHOICE and BEAUTY DAY.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, CROWN AVENUE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of CHARIZARD when being steadied to obtain cover behind that horse.

After the 1100 Metres, HOME MADE commenced to travel very keenly and got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CHARIZARD.

HOME MADE continued to over-race and making the turn near the 1000 Metres got its head up when being checked away from the heels of CHARIZARD which resulted in HOME MADE shifting out away from behind CHARIZARD and causing CROWN AVENUE to be taken wider.

Passing the 500 Metres, HOME MADE became unbalanced when buffeted between CHARIZARD which lay out marginally when awkwardly placed behind ALL YOU KNOW and CROWN AVENUE which shifted in after being brushed on the hindquarters by HOME MADE and when improving into tight running inside BEAUTY DAY which had come under pressure.

This incident resulted in HONE MADE losing ground.

As the Stewards were satisfied that there was no carelessness exhibited by any rider in this incident, no further action was taken.

Throughout the race, BEAUTY DAY travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.

A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY DAY immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

The performance of BEAUTY DAY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, BEAUTY DAY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the race, L Dettori reported that PAKISTAN FRIEND came under heavy pressure after the 900 Metres and had to be ridden along for a considerable distance.

He said PAKISTAN FRIEND became unbalanced in its action passing the 700 Metres and gave him the impression that it may have struck itself.

He said he continued to ride PAKISTAN FRIEND along for a short distance, however, the horse commenced to give ground near the 500 Metres and for this reason he eased it down in the Straight.

A veterinary inspection of PAKISTAN FRIEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When questioned, Mr J Moore, the trainer of MY ALLY, stated that he had been disappointed with the manner in which the horse had been finishing off its races of late when ridden in a forward position.

He said as MY ALLY was drawn in barrier 11 and given that it was carrying 133 pounds, he felt that the best option for MY ALLY would be for the horse to be ridden quietly.

He said he anticipated that tonight's race would be run at a good tempo given there were a number of horses engaged in the race which had previously raced in a prominent position and he felt that were use to be made of MY ALLY in the early stages it was likely that MY ALLY would be left racing wide and then would not be able to finish off the race after having to be ridden along to obtain a forward position.

He said he therefore instructed the rider of MY ALLY to shift the horse across behind runners in the early stages and obtain cover if possible.

He added given that MY ALLY did not finish off the race, it was his intention at this time to bring the horse back in distance at its next race start and, depending on the circumstances of the race, obtain a handy positon if possible.

A veterinary inspection of MY ALLY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection HOME MADE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

CHARIZARD, FLYING QUEST and MAGNIFICENT were sent for sampling.
