Recap by phillip woo

Punted late My Winner came on strongly to grab victory in deep stretch after being ridden for luck third from the rear from gate 13 in his first start for the Richard Gibson camp. Favourite Sprint Forward found one just too good after assuming the lead from Space 300m out. He's a winner waiting to happen. Sunshine Warrior ran on steadily to just get the bob down over Cheerful Leader for third following a one-off run in midfield. He might require a step up to a mile now. Cheerful Leader kept on reasonably well following a prominent run on the fence. It was a vastly-improved effort second-up with a move to a crossed nose band and step up in distance. Winning Endeavour was making a nice bid from the second half of the field before copping a check between runners at the 100m. Lucky Guy made only a mild bid following a midfield run on the fence. He requires fast going. Chaparral Star struggled to stay in touch and might have gone amiss.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (72) - LUNG FU SHAN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1400Meters

WINNING ENDEAVOUR began awkwardly and lost ground at the start.

SHINEALOT and SUNSHINE WARRIOR made contact soon after the start.

From the outside barrier, CHAPARRAL STAR was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.

WHO'S HORSE travelled keenly when being steadied to obtain cover in the early stages.

At the 1100 Metres, KA YING BRILLIANCE became unbalanced when directed out to avoid causing interference to WHO'S HORSE which continued to race ungenerously.

Despite being ridden along throughout the early and middle stages, CHAPARRAL STAR became detached from the field and consequently finished tailed out.

A veterinary inspection of CHAPARRAL STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of CHAPARRAL STAR was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, CHAPARRAL STAR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Passing the 400 Metres, CHEERFUL LEADER shifted out and brushed FORTUNATE RUNNER.

After the 300 Metres, SHINEALOT was shifted to the inside of LUCKY GUY when disappointed for running between that horse and MY WINNER.

At the 150 Metres, LUCKY GUY was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of SPACE (T H So) which shifted out before being corrected by its rider.

T H So was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

The Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred just prior to the 100 Metres where WINNING ENDEAVOUR was checked when racing between CHEERFUL LEADER (M Chadwick) and SUNSHINE WARRIOR (A Domeyer).

It was established that after passing the 200 Metres SUNSHINE WARRIOR initially shifted out slightly before being corrected by Jockey Domeyer and then when placed under full pressure shortly afterwards, shifted back in towards WINNING ENDEAVOUR.

It was also established that CHEERFUL LEADER, which was racing to the inside of WINNING ENDEAVOUR, shifted out under pressure and that just prior to the 100 Metres WINNING ENDEAVOUR moved in slightly away from SUNSHINE WARRIOR and was checked away from the heels of CHEERFUL LEADER.

Whilst the incident was one of some significance, the Stewards considered it appropriate to issue a severe reprimand to both Jockeys Chadwick and Domeyer who were advised that they would be expected to make more effort to keep their mounts on a straight course.

Over the concluding stages, LUCKY GUY lay in under pressure, requiring its rider, B Shinn, to stop riding and straighten his mount.

Throughout the race, WINNING WARRIOR travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground and finished tailed out.

A veterinary inspection of WINNING WARRIOR immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a small wound to the left hind fetlock.

The performance of WINNING WARRIOR was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, WINNING WARRIOR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of FORTUNATE RUNNER immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.

MY WINNER and SPRINT FORWARD were sent for sampling.
