Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Super Star was in no hurry fourth from the back, dived to the fence for a clear run at the 250m, hit the front 200m out and out-duelled Invincible Missile for a fourth win from seven starts. He's got the tools to head higher. Invincible Missile just failed after taking the more scenic route home after a deep run with cover in midfield. Alcari ran on well to finish a respectable third after making his run outside the winner third from the back. He's honest but doesn't win often. Beauty Loyal closed well along the inside to finish a non-threatening fourth travelling one from the back. Cool Team stayed on all right following a midfield run on the fence. The rise in weight for a last-start win took its toll. Tracking the leader Cheers Vanquisher, late-fancied Mighty Maverick knocked up in the last 100m after surging to the front 400m out. Classic Posh kept on one-paced after ranging up to nearly share the front at the 200m following a box-seat run.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine: (66) - TIANJIN HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1400Meters

ALCARI, which was replated in the Parade Ring after losing its left front plate, was examined by the Veterinary Officer on arrival at the Start and found to be suitable to race.

LOBO'S LEGEND began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped WON WON TOO which became unbalanced.

INVINCIBLE MISSILE and COMFORT LIFE bumped at the start.

BEAUTY LOYAL shifted in at the start and bumped the hindquarters of ALCARI.

From the outside barrier, MARQULA was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.

ALCARI was steadied in the early stages from a wide barrier to obtain cover.

When being steadied to obtain cover near the 1200 Metres, WON WON TOO got its head up on a number of occasions when proving very difficult to settle.

Passing the 1000 Metres, SUPER STAR was checked away from the heels of WON WON TOO which was continuing to travel keenly.

Making the turn after the 500 Metres, WON WON TOO got its head on the side and lay out and bumped the hindquarters of GUVNOR which became unbalanced.

Passing the 300 Metres, SUPER STAR was shifted in a number of horses to obtain clear running.

BEAUTY LOYAL was shifted in passing the 200 Metres to obtain clear running.

Throughout the race, GUVNOR travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground and finished tailed out.

A veterinary inspection of GUVNOR immediately following the race found that horse to have bled.

When questioned, A Domeyer stated that he was given two sets of instructions on how to ride BEAUTY LOYAL given the horse's wide barrier.

He said he was asked to go forward on the horse if it began well enough, however, he was asked if possible to obtain cover on the horse which Mr A S Cruz, the trainer of BEAUTY LOYAL, accepted may be difficult from the wide barrier.

He said if BEAUTY LOYAL did not begin well enough to be able to be ridden in a forward position with cover, he was given the option to ride it quietly to ensure that it was able to obtain cover which was important for this horse.

He said BEAUTY LOYAL began satisfactorily but it became apparent to him that he would have had to ride the horse aggressively to obtain a prominent position and therefore it may be unlikely that he would be able to obtain cover.

He said he therefore elected to steady BEAUTY LOYAL in the early stages and shift the horse across behind runners.

He said he was able to position BEAUTY LOYAL behind SUPER STAR which he expected to be a strong chance in the race and after obtaining clear running in the Straight BEAUTY LOYAL closed off well although its run ended over the concluding stages.

He added, in the circumstances, he believed that it was a correct decision for BEAUTY LOYAL to be ridden patiently as he was of the view that the way the race developed it would most likely have resulted in the horse being left racing wide and without cover.

Mr Cruz confirmed that he had provided Jockey Domeyer with alternate instructions which were dependent on how the horse began.

He said in the circumstances he was satisfied with Jockey Domeyer's decision to ride the horse from towards the rear of the field as, in his opinion, this provided BEAUTY LOYAL with the best opportunity to finish off the race.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on SUPER STAR at the request of Trainer A T Millard.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, SUPER STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of LOBO'S LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SUPER STAR and INVINCIBLE MISSILE were sent for sampling.
