Odds-on favourite Mr Croissant just held off Jumbo Prize after reclaiming the lead from Namjong Sings near the 250m for a third win from six starts. He'll remain competitive in the grade off a big weight. Plunged late Jumbo Prize made it close on the wire after angling off the fence for a clear run at the 200m following a prominent run. Old-timer New Asia Sunrise stayed on a non-threatening third after a one-off run better than midfield. He's run well in his three starts this term but keeps finding one or a couple too good. Gallant Return out-bid Monkey Jewellery for fourth after making his run one-off in midfield. He rarely produces a bad run. In his first run in this grade, Monkey Jewellery got going late after a deep run without cover behind midfield from a wide gate. He had an excuse and might be ready to tackle a longer trip. Mr Aldan closed off reasonably well near the inside after a patient ride fourth from the back. He's naturally acclimatising with racing.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (65) - SHANGHAI HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

As the start was effected, STAR OF YUEN LONG reared abruptly and lost a significant amount of ground.

As STAR OF YUEN LONG had previously had an embargo placed on it for issues at the barriers, the Stewards ruled that it must satisfactorily undertake a series of consecutive barrier trials before being permitted to race again.

HAPPY LIFELINE began awkwardly, shifted in and made heavy contact with JUMBO PRIZE which in turn shifted in and hampered GREAT SMART.

LITTLE WISE MAN began only fairly and then, despite being ridden along, failed to muster speed.

From a wide barrier, CRUCIATUS was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Passing the 1100 Metres, HAPPY VICTORY was momentarily steadied away from the heels of MR CROISSANT (Z Purton) which shifted in when not properly clear.

Z Purton was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

Making the turn after the 900 Metres, NAMJONG SINGS was left racing three wide and without cover outside the lead.

NAMJONG SINGS was then allowed to improve after the 800 Metres to obtain a position forward of HAPPY VICTORY and closer to the rail.

After the 700 Metres, MONKEY JEWELLERY was left racing wide and without cover.

Rounding the Home Turn, LITTLE WISE MAN was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MR ALDAN.

After initially being directed to the outside of MR ALDAN, LITTLE WISE MAN was again awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse at the entrance to the Straight and was initially directed to the inside of that horse to improve.

When MR ALDAN shifted in passing the 400 Metres, LITTLE WISE MAN was then shifted to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that LITTLE WISE MAN had bled from both nostrils.

JUMBO PRIZE had some difficulty obtaining a run in the early part of the Straight and near the 350 Metres was shifted to the outside of NAMJONG SINGS to obtain clear running.

After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that GALLANT RETURN was lame in its right front leg.

Before being allowed to race again, GALLANT RETURN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

MR CROISSANT and JUMBO PRIZE were sent for sampling.
