Recap by phillip woo

King Opie got up near the 100m for the win after sitting third in a sit-and-sprint contest. He had the benefit of a run and suited by the step up in distance. Well-backed Beauty Spirit grudging gave way after getting a soft time in front. He's honest but isn't a prolific winner. Star Performance ran on well to finish a close third following a one-off run in midfield. It was a solid run stepping up in grade off a light weight at only his second start and he remains one to follow. Favourite Harmony Victory finished well down the outside but cost himself after jumping poorly. He requires a faster pace and the 1,800m might suit him better. Joyful Trinity wasn't beaten too far in the end after rushing forward to sit second at the 1,200m. It wasn't a bad effort in his first run in 279-days. Mongolian King beat a few from the rear of the field. He wasn't suited by the race tempo.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (45) - THE POK OI CENTENARY CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 2 - 1600Meters

As the start was effected, HARMONY VICTORY stood flat-footed and consequently lost ground.

Before being allowed to race again, HARMONY VICTORY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

From the outside barrier, NOBLE STEED was steadied shortly after the start to obtain cover.

MONGOLIAN KING was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.

After initially being steadied in an attempt to obtain cover, JOYFUL TRINITY was left racing wide and without cover in the early stages and passing the 1200 Metres was allowed to improve to race in a prominent position closer to the rail.

STAR PERFORMANCE travelled keenly after the 1400 Metres.

When being steadied to obtain cover behind STAR PERFORMANCE approaching the 1200 Metres, HARMONY VICTORY commenced to travel keenly and got its head up and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of that horse which itself continued to travel keenly.

At the entrance to the Straight, KING OPIE raced tight outside CLASSIC BEAUTY which shifted out to obtain clear running.

STAR PERFORMANCE was shifted out away from KING OPIE in consequence, resulting in HARMONY VICTORY being inconvenienced.

Near the 75 Metres, G van Niekerk (HARMONY VICTORY) momentarily dropped his left rein.

A veterinary inspection of CLASSIC BEAUTY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

HARMONY VICTORY, KING OPIE and BEAUTY SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
