Recap by phillip woo

Nice Fandango easily found the front from the widest gate, straightened three lengths on top and kept on gamely for the win to land a betting move. He remains perfect in two Class Five starts. Favourite Multimax kept on well for second after crossing over to chase the leader passing the 1,000m. Like the latter, he's very effective in Class Five and did enjoy the claimer's 10-pound allowance. Starlot ran on well settling fifth from the back to grab third in deep stretch. He's been racing pretty well of late. Yee Cheong Lucky couldn't hold onto a placing after looming a good chance 150m out sitting two to threedeep with cover in midfield. He looks like he can find his mark in this grade. Adonis let things too late but was getting going from near last to nearly fill a Quartet spot. He keeps promising but can't seem to deliver. Cour Valant ran on late without threatening near the inside after a patient ride fourth from the back. He's long been beyond his better days.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (751) - TATE'S CAIRN HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1200Meters

NASHASHUK shifted in at the start and bumped PERFECT CHOICE which in turn shifted in and bumped YEE CHEONG LUCKY which became badly unbalanced.

STARLOT began only fairly and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Also from wide barriers, COUR VALANT, SOCCER MASTER and ADONIS were shifted across behind runners shortly after the start.

Approaching the 1100 Metres, as COUR VALANT was being steadied to obtain cover, that horse got its head up on a number of occasions and lay in across the heels of OTOUTO, resulting in COUR VALANT losing ground.

Approaching the 1000 Metres, EXPONENTS, PERFECT CHOICE and WINNING CIRCLE raced tight inside MULTIMAX (Apprentice K H Chan) which got its head on the side and shifted in away from NICE FANDANGO (G van Niekerk).

Apprentice Chan was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.

G van Niekerk was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1000 Metres he permitted NICE FANDANGO to shift in when not clear of MULTIMAX, which was racing tight to the outside of EXPONENTS, being taken in onto that horse causing EXPONENTS to be crowded for room, hampered, and taken in onto PERFECT CHOICE which was severely hampered and in turn taken in across the running of WINNING CIRCLE which was severely checked.

SHOW MISSION, which was racing to the inside of WINNING CIRCLE, also became very badly unbalanced and was hampered after being crowded for room inside that horse.

G van Niekerk was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 7 July 2019 and to expire on Thursday, 11 July 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

In addition, G van Niekerk was fined $35,000.

When this incident occurred, YEE CHEONG LUCKY shifted out away from the heels of EXPONENTS, resulting in NASHASHUK being hampered and taken wider.

NASHASHUK then got its head up when being steadied with a view to obtaining cover.

After this incident, EXPONENTS was left racing wide and without cover.

After the race, Z Purton reported that due to WINNING CIRCLE being severely checked, his saddle shifted back, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race.

Passing the 500 Metres, ADONIS raced in restricted room when attempting to improve inside SUNNY ORIENT and racing tight outside COUR VALANT.

NICE FANDANGO lay out making the Home Turn.

Passing the 200 Metres, EXPONENTS was awkwardly placed inside the heels of YEE CHEONG LUCKY which lay in under pressure.

This resulted in C Y Ho, the rider of YEE CHEONG LUCKY, having to stop riding and straighten the horse.

When YEE CHEONG LUCKY was straightened, COUR VALANT, which was following, was momentarily awkwardly placed behind that horse.

After the 200 Metres, COUR VALANT got its head on the side and lay in under pressure.

A veterinary inspection of SOCCER MASTER and WINNING CIRCLE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

NICE FANDANGO and MULTIMAX were sent for sampling.
