Recap by phillip woo

Odds-on favourite Champion's Way just got up despite rolling out under pressure after getting dragged back to midfield approaching the final bend to make it six wins from seven starts. Backed late Ka Ying Star drove to the front 1,200m out and wouldn't go down without a fight. He's developed into a nice miler. Insayshable ran on well to snatch third after settling midfield on the fence following a sluggish start. Mission Tycoon grudgingly gave way after handing up and taking the sit in second on the fence. He rarely produces a bad run but might be reaching his mark. Citron Spirit left things too late after travelling second from the rear. He might be better suited over the 1,800m nowadays. Red Warrior ran on without menacing down the outside from the rear of the field. This was too rich. Good Standing came up flat over the last 150m following a prominent run. He'll need to lift at this level following a nice Class One win.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine: (711) - THE LION ROCK TROPHY (HANDICAP) - Class G3 - 1600Meters

PINGWU SPARK was withdrawn on 1.6.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (colic).

Before being allowed to race again, PINGWU SPARK will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

KA YING STAR shifted out at the start and bumped INSAYSHABLE.

MISSION TYCOON shifted in at the start and bumped DINOZZO.

From the outside barriers, CITRON SPIRIT and RED WARRIOR were steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

For some distance after the 1300 Metres, SIMPLY BRILLIANT (Z Purton) proved very difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CHAMPION'S WAY.

Then after the 1100 Metres, SIMPLY BRILLIANT was again very awkwardly placed close to the heels of CHAMPION'S WAY when continuing to travel keenly.

Making the turn after the 900 Metres, SIMPLY BRILLIANT got its head up when being checked away from the heels of CHAMPION'S WAY.

When improving to the outside of CHAMPION'S WAY near the 550 Metres, SIMPLY BRILLIANT was bumped and taken wider by that horse which shifted out to improve.

When SIMPLY BRILLIANT was taken wider by CHAMPION'S WAY, RED WARRIOR, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence.

After the race, Z Purton stated that the horse's disappointing performance could be attributed to the manner in which it over-raced for a considerable distance in the early and middle stages.

A veterinary inspection of SIMPLY BRILLIANT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

INSAYSHABLE had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and near the 250 Metres was shifted to the outside of MISSION TYCOON to obtain a run.

Passing the 200 Metres, CHAMPION'S WAY got its head on the side and shifted out and then over the concluding stages hung out.

After the race, K Teetan stated that after travelling satisfactorily throughout the early and middle stages, GOOD STANDING did not quicken as anticipated and, in his opinion, was disappointing.

A veterinary inspection of GOOD STANDING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

CHAMPION'S WAY and KA YING STAR were sent for sampling.
