Recap by phillip woo

Marqula came on strongly down the outside after settling beyond midfield one-off behind the early favourite The Createth to just blouse Chairman Lo in the shadows of the post for an upset win. He's not easy to get right. Chairman Lo was just touched off after hitting the front 300m out following a box-seat run for a fifth runner-up result. A win isn't far away. Post-time favourite Destin ran on steadily one off better than midfield to just get the head down for third. He's honest but doesn't win often. Sunshine Warrior finished nicely down the outside after settling fourth last from the widest gate to nearly place. He's a nice type for next season and will appreciate an even longer trip. Thou Shall Sing kept on surprisingly well after tracking the leader Viva Council one off the fence. He's more effective over shorter trip preferably at the Valley. The Createth came up flat 100m out with his move from behind midfield and one off the fence.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (707) - UNIVERSITY HALL HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1400Meters

EMERALD SPUR was withdrawn on 1.6.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter STAR SUPERIOR (H N Wong).

Before being allowed to race again, EMERALD SPUR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

The Stewards today interviewed Trainer T P Yung regarding CHIU CHOW KID (T412) being a pre-declaration withdrawal for this race due to being administered extra-corporeal shockwave treatment within the prescribed clear day restrictions.

Also interviewed was Mr C K Tsang, assistant trainer allocated to Mr Yung's stable for the current season.

CHIU CHOW KID was withdrawn from this race on Wednesday, 29 May 2019.

Mr Yung was fined the sum of $10,000 in that after entering CHIU CHOW KID for this race when entries were extended, he did arrange for the horse to be administered extra-corporeal shockwave treatment after it barrier trialed on Tuesday, 28 May 2019 when that horse was the second standby runner for this race.

Mr Tsang was advised that a report would be forwarded to Stables Management in respect of the performance of his duties relative to this incident.

REEVE'S MUNTJAC began only fairly.

VOYAGE KING and CURLING LUXURY were crowded for room on jumping between DESTIN and THE CREATETH, both of which shifted ground.

In this incident, VOYAGE KING lost ground.

THOU SHALL SING shifted in at the start and bumped VIVA COUNCIL.

MARQULA shifted out at the start and inconvenienced GOLD VELVET and GENERAL TRUMP.

After this, MARQULA, GOLD VELVET and GENERAL TRUMP were all shifted across behind runners from wide barriers.

Also from the outside barrier, SUNSHINE WARRIOR was shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover.

REEVE'S MUNTJAC made the turn after the 900 Metres awkwardly.

At the entrance to the Straight, VOYAGE KING was shifted in away from the heels of CURLING LUXURY to continue improving.

VOYAGE KING was held up for clear running from after the 200 Metres until near the 100 Metres.

Close to the finishing line, THOU SHALL SING and STAR SUPERIOR were crowded for room between THE CREATETH which lay in under pressure in the Straight and DESTIN which shifted out.

When questioned, K C Leung stated that DESTIN is well-known to him and it had previously been established that the horse has a relatively short sprint.

He said approaching the 500 Metres it was available to him to shift to the outside of CURLING LUXURY which was commencing to give ground, however, he did not want to expose the horse to clear running at that early stage of the race.

He said as CURLING LUXURY was being taken out by STAR SUPERIOR passing the 500 Metres, he elected to shift back to the inside of STAR SUPERIOR and he was able to obtain clear running inside that horse.

He added when attempting to improve between STAR SUPERIOR and THOU SHALL SING, DESTIN took some time to quicken and near the 300 Metres he was required to shift back to the inside of THOU SHALL SING as a result of STAR SUPERIOR shifting in under pressure.

He said whilst he had some difficulty obtaining clear running after the 200 Metres, he was able to shift to the outside of CHAIRMAN LO approaching the 100 Metres and then obtained clear running over the concluding stages.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on DESTIN at the request of Trainer P O'Sullivan.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, DESTIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

DESTIN, MARQULA and CHAIRMAN LO were sent for sampling.
