Speedy King just held off the favourite Refined Treasure by a lip after rolling to the lead 400m out chasing the leader Montreal to earn a third victory this term. Refined Treasure came on well travelling on the far side in midfield to finish a clear-cut second. He remains one to follow over this Sha Tin trip. California Whip really got going inside the final 150m from the second half of the field to grab a placing 50m out. It was a return to form in his first try over the straight 1,000m. Saul's Special had his chance chasing the speed but it was another honest effort. Jumbo Luck kept on all right travelling fore of midfield in the center of the track. He rarely produces a bad run but requires further relief in the ratings. Raging Storm never recovered after getting badly hampered at the 250m following a midfield run. Montreal showed terrific gate speed to lead as expected but knocked up badly over the final 200m in his first run in nearly a year following an injury.

Race Nine: (656) - MACAU HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1000Meters

TELECOM BROTHERS was withdrawn on 10.5.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore left front tendon) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SUPER TURBO (C Schofield).

Before being allowed to race again, TELECOM BROTHERS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

FABULOUS ONE began only fairly, shifted out and bumped JUMBO LUCK which became unbalanced after initially shifting out and bumping SAUL'S SPECIAL.

HINCHINLOVE began awkwardly and then was bumped by CALIFORNIA WHIP which shifted in.

Shortly after the start, BALTIC WHISPER shifted out and bumped JADE THEATRE.

Near the 300 Metres, RAGING STORM was steadied when disappointed for running between BALTIC WHISPER and FABULOUS ONE, both of which shifted ground.

After this, RAGING STORM was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BALTIC WHISPER before being shifted out away from behind that horse near the 250 Metres.

RAGING STORM was then awkwardly placed behind FABULOUS ONE for a short distance near the 200 Metres before being shifted to the outside of that horse.

When RAGING STORM shifted out, HINCHINLOVE, which was racing outside that horse, was inconvenienced.

Passing the 300 Metres, Apprentice C Wong (FABULOUS ONE) dropped his whip.

After the race, K Teetan (MONTREAL) reported that, from barrier 1, he was instructed to shift across to race closer to the outside rail, however, BALTIC WHISPER maintained its position outside MONTREAL in the early and middle stages which prevented him from shifting across as intended.

He said MONTREAL consequently worked hard in the lead and over the concluding stages weakened noticeably after the horse's condition gave out.

A veterinary inspection of MONTREAL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Also after the race, Apprentice K H Chan stated that based on the manner in which SPEED VISION weakened out of the race after obtaining a forward position indicated to him that the horse may be better suited in races conducted at Happy Valley.

A veterinary inspection of RAGING STORM and SPEED VISION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SPEEDY KING and REFINED TREASURE were sent for sampling.
