Recap by phillip woo

Fortune Patrol quickened nicely after a deep run with cover beyond midfield to grab a first victory near the 150m at his 21st start. He was suited by the class record setting time but he had been knocking on the door. Favourite Gorgeous Again finished nicely after hugging the fence behind midfield to finish a clear-cut second. He's turned things around in his past two starts and can handle a further trip as well. Young Glory came from last and widest out after a slow start to grab a placing 50m out. He can produce a nice run now and then but did appreciate the hot tempo. Proud Sky closed well one from the right to fill the frame. He's always a chance over this Sha Tin trip. Celebration kept on all right after taking the sit in fourth behind leader Rocket Go after jumping well from a wide gate. He's limited but it was a better run following a stable change. Above gradually faded after nearly levelling up in front at the 200m tracking the speed from a wide gate.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (648) - LOTUS BRIDGE HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1800Meters

VICTORIOUS LEADER was slow to begin.

From the outside barriers, PROUD SKY, YOUNG GLORY and ROMANTIC JOURNEY were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Despite being ridden along in the early stages, PEARL FURU failed to muster speed.

Approaching the 1500 Metres, FORTUNE PATROL momentarily raced tight inside ROCKET GO.

Near the 1600 Metres, ABOVE was steadied away from the heels of VIRTUS STAR (J Moreira) which shifted in.

J Moreira was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

Then after the 1400 Metres, ABOVE was left racing wide and without cover and was consequently ridden along to obtain a position closer to the rail after the 1100 Metres.

Rounding the Home Turn, LUCKY WIN WIN raced in restricted room between FORTUNE PATROL and VIRTUS STAR which shifted out.

Near the 250 Metres, VICTORIOUS LEADER was shifted in away from the heels of BEST EFFORT.

When questioned, M F Poon stated that he was instructed to lead on ROCKET GO if possible.

He said, despite being hard ridden in the early stages, ROCKET GO was out-paced and he was not initially able to obtain a forward position.

He said he therefore, after the 1600 Metres, attempted to shift in behind LUCKY WIN WIN and in advance of FORTUNE PATROL and obtain cover.

He said when FORTUNE PATROL maintained its position to the inside of ROCKET GO, ROCKET GO was then left racing three wide after the 1500 Metres.

He said rather than remain racing three wide in midfield and as there was a considerable distance prior to the first run, he elected to urge his mount along to obtain a forward position as he was initially instructed.

He added whilst he had to make some use of ROCKET GO to obtain the lead, he was able to shift that horse to race on the rail after the 1000 Metres and he immediately steadied the tempo of the race.

After the race, J Moreira was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of VIRTUS STAR which did not finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of VIRTUS STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When questioned regarding the performance of BEST EFFORT, Apprentice K H Chan stated that at its last start when successful, BEST EFFORT was able to obtain the lead in the early stages from an inside barrier without having to be made use of and was then able to travel comfortably in the lead.

He said, from the horse's wide barrier today, he had to make considerable use of BEST EFFORT in the early stages to cross runners to his inside which resulted in the pace of the race in the early stages being faster than he had hoped.

He said after obtaining the lead near the 1500 Metres, he commenced to steady the tempo, however, ROCKET GO improved its position after the 1100 Metres into the lead and as he had made a lot of use of BEST EFFORT, he elected not to continue forward with that horse as the race was being run at a good tempo.

He said BEST EFFORT then did not travel as comfortably as it did at its last start and then after being placed under pressure in the early part of the Straight did not finish off the race.

He added whilst BEST EFFORT raced disappointingly today, he felt that there were a number of circumstances which were different from it last start when successful which resulted in the horse not being able to finish off the race as it did on that occasion.

A veterinary inspection of BEST EFFORT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of KEEP WINNING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

FORTUNE PATROL and GORGEOUS AGAIN were sent for sampling.
