Silver Fig won going away 50m out after a deep run with cover in midfield from a wide gate. He's won two of four starts and has the tools to head a lot higher. Yichun Blitz found one too smart after assuming the lead stalking the leader Roman Odyssey at the 330m. Calling The Shots stayed on well to spice up the tierce after a deep run with cover better than midfield. It was his best run to date from 10 starts following a stable change. Specked late Supreme Plus rallied well one from the right after travelling three deep with cover behind midfield from a wide gate. The Createth had to check close to home near the inside following a patient ride fourth from the back. Roman Odyssey was giving ground over the final 150m. He's better suited at the Valley. Favourite Prince Of Gems disappointed following a handy run with cover carrying top weight. He might not have handled the wet ground. Eight Trigrams cost himself after rearing badly at the start.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eleven: (639) - THE IP JUG (HANDICAP) - Class 4 - 1200Meters

MONKEY JEWELLERY was withdrawn on 4.5.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter FOCUS (K C Leung).

Before being allowed to race again, MONKEY JEWELLERY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

As the start was effected, EIGHT TRIGRAMS reared abruptly and struck its head with force on the overhead structure, resulting in the horse losing a considerable amount of ground.

A veterinary inspection of EIGHT TRIGRAMS immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, EIGHT TRIGRAMS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

FOCUS began awkwardly and then shortly after the start was bumped by RED BRICK FIGHTER.

FREE VIEW began awkwardly.

From a wide barrier, VICTORY SONG was steadied in the early stages.

At the entrance to the Straight SILVER FIG and DIGITAL TRIUMPH raced tight as SILVER FIG improved into tight running between DIGITAL TRIUMPH and CALLING THE SHOTS.

Approaching the 300 Metres, FOCUS and THE CREATETH raced tight as THE CREATETH shifted out.

After the 200 Metres, ROMAN ODYSSEY was awkwardly placed inside the heels of YICHUN BLITZ which shifted in.

Close to the finishing line, THE CREATETH was crowded for room between YICHUN BLITZ (C Schofield) and CALLING THE SHOTS (A Domeyer), both of which shifted a minimal amount of ground.

C Schofield and A Domeyer were told to ensure that they make every endeavour to prevent their mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.

Because of this, THE CREATETH was not able to be tested over the concluding stages.

Throughout the race, DIGITAL TRIUMPH and CALLING THE SHOTS travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PRINCE OF GEMS, Z Purton stated that his mount was fractious in the barriers and because of this began only fairly.

He said PRINCE OF GEMS was able to recover from the poor start and obtain a good position behind the speed.

He said his mount travelled well in the middle stages, however, in the early part of the Straight came under pressure and then did not finish off the race as well as expected.

He added when PRINCE OF GEMS was successful at its first start and in its barrier trials leading up to that race, the horse had either led or sat outside the lead and he therefore recommended to connections that they consider stepping the horse up in distance at its next start and obtaining the lead if possible as the horse may not have appreciated racing in amongst other runners at this early stage of its career.

A veterinary inspection of PRINCE OF GEMS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

PRINCE OF GEMS, SILVER FIG and YICHUN BLITZ were sent for sampling.

1.

1 May 2019 Happy Valley racemeeting - Race 8 (628) The Stewards today questioned Z Purton, the rider of VINCY, regarding the performance of that horse.

Z Purton stated that he was able to obtain a position in about midfield in the early stages, however, in the middle stages got shuffled back further from the leaders than had been anticipated due to VIGOR FAME pressing on to race outside the lead after the 1100 Metres.

He said a number of horses were able to improve their position after the 700 Metres which VINCY was not able to do due to racing on the rail inside GOD OF DRAGON.

He said when the tempo of the race quickened near the 400 Metres, VINCY was left flat-footed as the horse generally takes time to wind up, however, was commencing to finish off the race well after the 200 Metres when VINCY was then held up for clear running over the final 50 Metres.

He added, in his opinion, VINCY's run was better than it appeared due to the circumstances of the race.

Additional Veterinary Reports from Happy Valley Racemeeting on 1 May 2019 The Veterinary Surgeon reported that NAVAS was lame in its right front leg on the morning after racing.

Before being allowed to race again, NAVAS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Subsequent official veterinary inspections (without endoscopy) of GUNNAR, MR RIGHT, HONG KONG WIN, STARLOT, FORMULA GALORE, PRECIOUS SWEETIE, JOLLY CONVERGENCE, LUCKY THOUGHT, GENTRY, HAPPY WARRIOR, PRANCE DRAGON, LOVING A BOOM, GREEN LUCK, LAST KINGDOM, PERFECT GLORY, FIRST RESPONDER, ARCADA and VIGOR FAME revealed no apparent abnormality.

Racing Laboratory tests of SUNNY ORIENT, GREAT SON, TRAVEL SUCCESSOR, PERFECT TO PLAY, MY FAMILY, ELECTRIC LIGHTNING, ENJOYABLE SUCCESS, GOLDEN CANNON, LE TERROIR, JUMBO PRIZE, GIFT OF LIFELINE, LORIZ, GOLDEN GLORY, PLANET STAR, FAT TURTLE, HAPPY DRAGON, TRAVEL FIRST, GLORIOUS DRAGON, YEE CHEONG BABY and MAGIC LEGEND (24.4.19) proved negative.
