Recap by phillip woo

Mr Right led and just held off Hong Kong Win for a second win over this Valley trip from his past three starts. It was a depthless race. Well-backed Hong Kong Win kept on nicely tracking the speed one off to finish a close second at only his second start and first over this course. Cheer Win finished well with two wider out after a midfield run on the fence to make it close on the wire in his best run of the campaign. He is well rated off his current mark. Favourite Gunnar gradually gave way over the last 100m after working to take up a prominent spot from a tricky gate. He's still a work in progress. Demons Rock made some ground late down the outside after a deep run behind midfield in his best performance from 13 starts. Dalradian plugged on without threatening following a handy run with money for him late. He's limited. Travel Datuk ran on without menacing after going back from a wide gate. He had trouble winning but a better draw would help his chances.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (621) - KWUN TONG HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1000Meters

GENERAL IRON was withdrawn on 30.4.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right front lateral suspensory branch injury) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter REGENCY GEM (T H So).

Before being allowed to race again, GENERAL IRON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

DEMONS ROCK began awkwardly and then became unbalanced a short distance after the start when bumped by HONG KONG WIN.

GREAT FIT became badly unbalanced and lost ground at the start when crowded for room between BEAUTY TIME and GUNNAR which shifted out.

From the outside barriers, BEAUTY TIME and TRAVEL DATUK were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

H N Wong (CASIMIRO) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 850 Metres he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount from shifting in when not clear of CHEER WIN, causing that horse to be unnecessarily crowded for room and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled.

H N Wong was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 22 May 2018 and to expire on Monday, 27 May 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

When being steadied to obtain cover behind CASIMIRO near the 800 Metres, DEMONS ROCK got its head up on a number of occasions.

Approaching the 600 Metres, HONG KONG WIN travelled keenly when being steadied to obtain cover behind GUNNAR.

Near the 450 Metres, GREAT FIT got its head on the side and lay out.

Close to the finishing line, TRAVEL DATUK was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KANBEKI MOLLY and passing the winning post bumped REGENCY GEM.

After the race, it was noted that BEAUTY TIME had blood at its mouth.

A veterinary inspection of TRAVEL DATUK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.

GUNNAR, MR RIGHT and HONG KONG WIN were sent for sampling.
