Recap by phillip woo

Firming second choice Beat The Clock ran down Rattan 20m out following a perfect oneout, one-back run. He's a top sprinter and got a race run to suit. Rattan wouldn't go down without a fight as the surprise leader. He's versatile but has transformed himself as a quality sprinter in his past two starts. Little Giant kept on well after a box-seat run. He rarely produces a bad run over this trip. Favourite Santa Ana Lane ran on without ever looking a major threat down the outside from the rear of the field. The Australian challenger requires a faster pace. Pingwu Spark kept grinding away following a midfield run. It wasn't a bad run but he's not good enough at this level of competition. Japan's Nac Venus was stopping 100m out after pushing forward to track the leader at the 850m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six: (616) - THE CHAIRMAN'S SPRINT PRIZE - Class G1 - 1200Meters

MR STUNNING was withdrawn on 27.4.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore).

Before being allowed to race again, MR STUNNING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

WINNER'S WAY and NAC VENUS began only fairly.

From the outside barrier, SANTA ANA LANE was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After the 800 Metres, VIDDORA was left racing wide and without cover.

Over the concluding stages, LITTLE GIANT raced tight inside BEAT THE CLOCK.

After the race, H Bowman stated that whilst the tempo of the race did not suit SANTA ANA LANE, he felt that the horse was close enough rounding the Home Turn after being shifted to the outside of VIDDORA to finish off the race strongly.

He added however that SANTA ANA LANE did not appear to show the same turn of foot as it had in its previous races.

SANTA ANA LANE, BEAT THE CLOCK and RATTAN were sent for sampling.
