Recap by phillip woo

Old-timer The Show defied a deep run worse than midfield to get up 50m out. He's firing on all cylinders this term and remains one to follow. Super Euro Star wore down All Wongchoy for second after working early on to park outside that one in the run. All Wongchoy kept on well after leading from an awkward gate in a promising debut. His gate speed will pay off in spades over this course as he matures with racing. London Master finished well after settling behind midfield to just miss a placing. It was another good effort carrying more weight following back-to-back wins. Second-time starter King's Trooper just lost a Quartet spot after having to take hold late racing restricted for room at times in the stretch drive following a midfield run. Yee Cheong Pegasus got going late from near the back. It was a better run with a gear change to blinkers. Firming favourite Jumbo Prize hit a flat spot 100m out travelling one-off better than midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (511) - BROOM HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

FOX CHEUNGER began awkwardly and lost ground.

ROMAN ODYSSEY began awkwardly.

Shortly after the start, KING'S TROOPER was crowded for room between APPLAUSE and JUMBO PRIZE which was taken in by LONDON MASTER which raced tight inside SUPER EURO STAR which got its head on the side and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

From the outside barriers, YEE CHEONG PEGASUS and BRAVE COMMAND were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.

Making the first turn near the 1000 Metres, JUMBO PRIZE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of APPLAUSE.

In the early stages, THOU SHALL SING was steadied to obtain cover.

Approaching the 600 Metres, SUPER EURO STAR got it head on the side and lay in.

When this occurred, APPLAUSE, which was following SUPER EURO STAR, became awkwardly placed behind that horse and shifted out away from the heels of SUPER EURO STAR.

At the entrance to the Straight, JUMBO PRIZE shifted out and bumped THE SHOW.

At the 300 Metres, ROMAN ODYSSEY was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SUPER EURO STAR.

KING'S TROOPER had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and when shifted to the inside of SUPER EURO STAR passing the 200 Metres made contact with ROMAN ODYSSEY.

Then near the 100 Metres, KING'S TROOPER was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SUPER EURO STAR as a result of both horses shifting ground.

Approaching the 100 Metres, APPLAUSE was crowded for room between SUPER EURO STAR and JUMBO PRIZE which shifted in marginally away from THE SHOW.

After the 50 Metres, JUMBO PRIZE was awkwardly placed behind THE SHOW and consequently was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.

Close to the finishing line, KING'S TROOPER was crowded for room between SUPER EURO STAR and ALL WONGCHOY, both of which shifted ground.

Due to being crowded, KING'S TROOPER was not able to be ridden out to the end of the race.

When questioned, K C Leung (SUPER EURO STAR) stated that he was asked to ride SUPER EURO STAR positively in the early stages and attempt to lead but not to make much use of the horse to do so.

He said SUPER EURO STAR was able to show good speed in the early stages to take up a forward position and when ALL WONGCHOY improved to his outside after the 1100 Metres he believed that he would have had to ride his mount along to cross APPLAUSE to his inside to prevent being crossed by ALL WONGCHOY and holding the rail.

He said rather than ride his mount along at this stage, he allowed ALL WONGCHOY to cross SUPER EURO STAR after the 1000 Metres and then improved his position after this to race outside ALL WONGCHOY from the 800 Metres.

A veterinary inspection of APPLAUSE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.

JUMBO PRIZE, THE SHOW and SUPER EURO STAR were sent for sampling.
