Recap by phillip woo

Lucky Girl kept on gamely for the win after sneaking up along the inside to lead 150m out saving ground worse than midfield. He was well rated off his current mark but it wasn't a strong Class Three. Merrygowin came on strongly following a patient ride third from the rear to snatch second from Magnetism. He was able to live up to a last-start win in Class Four but was suited by the strong fractions. Magnetism was just out-dashed for the Quinella spot after settling fourth from the back from a wide gate. Early favourite Good Beauty lost a placing late after getting his chance one-off in midfield. The mile trip's a tad too far. Of those racing in the first half of the field, Kings Shield kept on best following a one-out, one-back run. He was suited by the downgrade but prefer him on the dirt. Ultimate Glory's wheels were spinning 150m out after tracking solid fractions in the boxseat. He'll likely find himself in Class Four now.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (495) - YEE WO STREET HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Meters

BRAVE LEGEND was withdrawn on 12.3.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MIGHTY MAVERICK (J Moreira).

Before being allowed to race again, BRAVE LEGEND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

As the start was effected, LET'S TAKE IT EASY got its head up and consequently was very slow to begin.

Before being allowed to race again, LET'S TAKE IT EASY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

From the outside barriers, MAGNETISM and KUNGFUMASTER PANDA were both shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Despite being ridden along in the early stages, MERRYGOWIN was slow to muster speed.

KINGS SHIELD lost its right front plate approaching the winning post on the first occasion.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, MERRYGOWIN and LUCKY GIRL raced tight.

Then near the 1300 Metres, MERRYGOWIN was awkwardly placed outside the heels of GOOD BEAUTY.

Passing the 900 Metres, GOOD BEAUTY commenced to prove difficult to settle and shifted out away from the heels of KINGS SHIELD.

MERRYGOWIN, which was following, raced close to the heels of GOOD BEAUTY in consequence.

After this, GOOD BEAUTY continued to travel keenly.

M F Poon (ULTIMATE GLORY) dropped his whip approaching the 50 Metres.

When questioned regarding the performance of ALL YOU KNOW, S de Sousa stated that from the wide barrier he was asked to ride the horse in about 5th or 6th position if possible.

He said after riding his mount positively in the early stages, he steadied it after the 1500 Metres in an attempt to obtain a position with cover.

He said after shifting ALL YOU KNOW in to race behind TRAVEL FIRST, ALL YOU KNOW was then left racing three wide and without cover after the 1200 Metres.

He said ALL YOU KNOW travelled satisfactorily and after the 900 Metres he allowed his mount to improve its position to be racing outside MIGHTY MAVERICK.

He added although ALL YOU KNOW was required to race wide and without cover, nonetheless he felt that the horse was disappointing as it came under heavy pressure passing the 500 Metres and then, despite being hard ridden, gave ground noticeably in the Straight to finish at the rear of the field.

A veterinary inspection of ALL YOU KNOW immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of ALL YOU KNOW, favourite for tonight's race, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, ALL YOU KNOW will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

When questioned, Apprentice C Wong (MERRYGOWIN) stated that after the 600 Metres he was racing behind GOOD BEAUTY, a horse he considered to be a strong chance in tonight's race.

He said approaching the 500 Metres he shifted to be racing towards the outside of the heels of GOOD BEAUTY, however, he was reluctant to too allow his mount to stride forward at this time to obtain a position behind PRETTY BAUHINIA as he was concerned that GOOD BEAUTY would shift out to race behind PRETTY BAUHINIA which would result in MERRYGOWIN being taken unnecessarily wide.

He said for this reason he elected to remain racing to the outside of GOOD BEAUTY and when that horse improved inside PRETTY BAUHINIA rounding the Home Turn, he immediately shifted MERRYGOWIN to the outside of PRETTY BAUHINIA and then after being placed under pressure in the Straight MERRYGOWIN finished off the race strongly.

After the race, J Moreira stated that due to the tempo of the race in the early stages he had to make a lot of use of MIGHTY MAVERICK to cross runners to its inside and obtain a forward position.

He said it was not until after passing the winning post on the first occasion that he was able to steady his mount and MIGHTY MAVERICK subsequently travelled satisfactorily in the middle stages, however, after coming under pressure rounding the Home Turn then weakened over the latter stages of the race.

He added, in his opinion, the horse's failure to finish off the race could be attributed to the amount of use that had to be made of it in the early stages.

A veterinary inspection of MIGHTY MAVERICK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of KINGFUMASTER PANDA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

ALL YOU KNOW, LUCKY GIRL and MERRYGOWIN were sent for sampling.
