Recap by phillip woo

Rise High came with a bold run down the outside to run down favourite What Else But You in the shadows of the post for a return to the winner's circle. He's a real smart miler at Sha Tin. What Else But You found one better after advancing to the front 160m out following a one-off run in midfield. He did little wrong but get the win. Dinozzo closed well from near last to overhaul Pingwu Spark in the final few strides for third over a trip short of his best. He's racing well without winning but things won't come easy at this level. Pingwu Spark came up one-paced over the last 100m after moving to the front 300m out punching the breeze in third. He ran okay but continues to find things too rich around his current mark. Seasons Bloom made some ground near the outside without menacing travelling third from the back after having to steady at the start. He's had a disappointing campaign and the big weight dropping in class didn't help.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (485) - LAVENDER HANDICAP - Class 1 - 1600Meters

SEASONS BLOOM was crowded for room on jumping between PINGWU SPARK and WHAT ELSE BUT YOU which shifted in after beginning awkwardly.

In this incident, SEASONS BLOOM bumped the hindquarters of WHAT ELSE BUT YOU which got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly away from GOOD STANDING, causing SEASONS BLOOM to be checked.

DINOZZO shifted in at the start and bumped the hindquarters of GOOD STANDING.

From the outside barrier, RISE HIGH was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Approaching the 1400 Metres, SIMPLY BRILLIANT was crowded for room inside GOOD STANDING (M Chadwick) which, after shifting in, then when being directed out to relieve the tightening to SIMPLY BRILLIANT raced tight inside MORETHANLUCKY which shifted in to take up the ground provided by GOOD STANDING shifting in.

MORETHANLUCKY was then directed out to relieve the tightening to GOOD STANDING and SIMPLY BRILLIANT.

M Chadwick was advised that whilst there were some circumstances to this incident, nonetheless he had commenced the tightening to SIMPLY BRILLIANT by allowing his mount to shift in.

M Chadwick was reprimanded and told to ensure that he is sufficiently clear of other runners before shifting ground in similar circumstances.

Near the 1000 Metres, DINOZZO was taken wider by SEASONS BLOOM which shifted out away from behind SIMPLY BRILLIANT.

DINOZZO then got its head up when being steadied to resume racing with cover behind SEASONS BLOOM.

At the 350 Metres, PINGWU SPARK and MORETHANLUCKY raced tight.

When questioned regarding the performance of SIMPLY BRILLIANT, S de Sousa stated that it was intended for the horse to be ridden in a more forward position, however, SIMPLY BRILLIANT did not show sufficient speed to be able to be as prominent as hoped and because of this was required to race in about a midfield position.

He said SIMPLY BRILLIANT was left flat-footed after the 600 Metres and then took some time to gather momentum and it was not until the concluding stages that SIMPLY BRILLIANT commenced to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of SIMPLY BRILLIANT immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a minor laceration to the right stifle.

A veterinary inspection of MORETHANLUCKY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of GOOD STANDING immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea and also found the horse to have sustained a small overreach injury to the right front heel.

Before being allowed to race again, GOOD STANDING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

RISE HIGH and WHAT ELSE BUT YOU were sent for sampling.
