Recap by phillip woo

Well-backed late, Clear Choice came on nicely to grab victory 100m out after settling effectively one-out, one-back. He had been running well in defeat in his past three starts and might have the tools to win another. Tai Smart finished well down the outside after travelling second from the rear to overhaul Curling Luxury 20m out for second. He can bob up now and then. Curling Luxury grudgingly gave way after setting a genuine pace in front from a tricky gate. He ran his usual honest race over this Valley trip. Family Leader kept grinding away following a box-seat run in his first outing over this course and distance. He's still learning but has gone all right in each of his three starts. Favourite Glory Star found little in the run to the wire chasing a good pace one-off in second. He might be near his mark after winning his opening two runs this term. Champion Supreme whacked on one-paced after a deep run behind midfield with cover.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (342) - PERCIVAL HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

After being loaded into the barriers, IMPECCABLE FELLOW became very fractious and reared on a number of occasions.

Before being allowed to race again, IMPECCABLE FELLOW will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.

CROWN AVENUE was crowded for room on jumping between FAMILY LEADER and IMPECCABLE FELLOW which shifted out.

In this incident, FAMILY LEADER became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by CROWN AVENUE.

CLEAR CHOICE shifted out at the start and bumped REAL GIANT which in turn shifted out and bumped TAI SMART which became unbalanced.

After this, from wide barriers, REAL GIANT and TAI SMART were shifted across behind runners.

Passing the 1300 Metres, CROWN AVENUE and CHAMPION SUPREME raced tight.

Making the turn after the 1000 Metres, CLEAR CHOICE commenced to travel keenly and was awkwardly placed behind GLORY STAR.

Near the 450 Metres, CHAMPION SUPREME was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of SUNNY MAJOR which was being hard ridden.

CURLING LUXURY lay out rounding the Home Turn.

Over the final 100 Metres, CLEAR CHOICE shifted out under pressure.

M Chadwick (IMPECCABLE FELLOW) reported that his saddle shifted back in the early stages.

When questioned, H N Wong stated that due to the manner in which LEISURED FEET over-race last start and consequently failed to finish off the race, he was asked to attempt to obtain a trailing position from the outside barrier in the hope that the horse would be able to close off stronger than it had been.

He said in the early stages when the tempo of the race was quite slow, LEISURED FEET was unable to obtain cover and was consequently left racing wide and without cover passing the winning post on the first occasion.

He said after the 1200 Metres he commenced to allow LEISURED FEET to improve in order to obtain a position closer to the rail, however, the tempo of the race increased after the 1200 Metres and, despite allowing his mount to stride forward, LEISURED FEET was not able to show sufficient speed to improve its position sufficiently to clear runners to its inside.

He said he was reluctant to ride his mount along to obtain a more forward position having in mind that it over-raced last start.

He added LEISURED FEET came under pressure after the 800 Metres and then gave ground noticeably after travelling wide and without cover throughout to finish tailed out.

The performance of LEISURED FEET was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, LEISURED FEET will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of IMPECCABLE FELLOW immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a small wound to the outside of the right forearm.

A veterinary inspection of GLORY STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of CHAMPION SUPREME immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse's trachea.

GLORY STAR, CLEAR CHOICE and TAI SMART were sent for sampling.
