Favourite Raging Blitzkrieg raced clear at the 280m following a one-off run in midfield for a first win at his 15th start. He had always been promising and delivered an emphatic way. Goldie Flanker rattled home late down the outside to grab second approaching the 100m sitting patiently third from the rear. He ran on better second-up but is a more reliable chance on a win line in Class Four. Super Man came on nicely from the second half of the field to grab a placing 50m out. Strathclyde came up one-paced after straightening three from the right following a one-out, one-back to just hold off California Gungho to finish a distant fourth. California Gungho stayed on all right after being posted deep early on in midfield from a wide gate. He's run well once on each surface following a stable change. Team Fortune was held up and never properly tested over the last 200m after a never better than four-deep run without cover beyond midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (272) - HONG KONG PARK HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

HAPPY TOUR was withdrawn on 17.12.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (blood abnormality) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter WONDERFUL JOURNEY (U Rispoli).

Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY TOUR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

STRATHCLYDE and DASHING GAINER bumped at the start.

JUST NOT LISTENING shifted out on jumping and bumped ELITE BOY.

WONDERFUL JOURNEY was slow to begin and then despite being ridden along failed to muster speed.

Despite being vigorously ridden in the early stages, SUPER MAN failed to muster speed.

From wide barriers, TEAM FORTUNE and GRATWICK were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Despite being ridden along for some distance in the early stages, HEALTHY LUCK failed to muster speed.

Passing the 800 Metres, SUPER MAN and TEAM FORTUNE raced tight.

Approaching the 600 Metres, SUPER MAN was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CALIFORNIA GUNGHO.

At the 400 Metres, JUST NOT LISTENING and RAGING BLITZKRIEG bumped.

Near the 250 Metres, WONDERFUL JOURNEY was shifted in away from the heels of TEAM FORTUNE which was steadied when disappointed for running between STRATHCLYDE and JUST NOT LISTENING (S de Sousa) which shifted out under pressure.

S de Sousa was advised that whilst the Stewards were satisfied that TEAM FORTUNE had not established running to the outside of JUST NOT LISTENING, nonetheless in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount.

Near the 150 Metres, WONDERFUL JOURNEY was steadied when disappointed for running between CALIFORNIA GUNGHO and JUST NOT LISTENING which shifted in before being corrected by its rider.

In this incident, CALIFORNIA GUNGHO was awkwardly placed between WONDERFUL JOURNEY and DASHING GAINER.

After being corrected, JUST NOT LISTENING shifted out and inconvenienced TEAM FORTUNE.

After the race, S de Sousa said that when RAGING BLITZKRIEG improved to the outside of JUST NOT LISTENING at the 400 Metres, JUST NOT LISTENING came off the bridle and then did not finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of ELITE BOY and JUST NOT LISTENING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

RAGING BLITZKRIEG and GOLDIE FLANKER were sent for sampling.

Trainer W Y So was fined the sum of $5,000 for failing to inform officials that PERFECT TO PLAY (B95) was wearing ear plugs prior to that horse undergoing a barrier trial on Tuesday, 18 December 2018.

PERFECT TO PLAY has been approved to race in ear plugs at its next start.
