Recap by phillip woo
Exultant was given a brilliant ride by Zac Purton to beat the internationals for the biggest win of his career. He fought back close to home for the win after being headed by Lys Gracieux 150m out chasing the moderate early fractions of Crocosmia. Lys Gracieux thought he had the prize in the bag for Japan when hitting the front 150m out with a bold move from near the back. Eziyra stayed on a non-threatening third with every chance following a one-out, one-back run. Eagle Way produced a ducking-and-weaving run travelling fourth from the back to fill a Quartet spot. He should have finished closer and, like the winner, did Hong Kong proud. Favourite Waldgeist was terribly unlucky when failing to gain a run until the last 150m after straightening four deep following a rail run behind midfield. Second favourite Pakistan Star came up one-paced travelling fore of midfield on the fence. It wasn't a bad run but he's not the same horse this season.
