Recap by phillip woo

Harbour Alert kept on gamely after staving off a challenge by the favourite Encore Boy at the 200m to make all with the claim well utilised. He relished a return to the dirt after a positive run earlier this month and should remain competitive in the grade. Encore Boy just failed after chasing the leader one off. The 14-pound swing in the weights was the difference in the end. Dirt specialist Super Man stayed on well for a placing after a prominent run without cover. It was a solid first run back following an injury in March. King Genki just failed to get up for a placing after travelling four-deep without cover worse than midfield the entire trip. He'll be hard to beat over a mile or 1,800m if he remains in the grade. Phantom Falcon kept on one-paced chasing the leaders on the fence. He's better on the turf. Lightly-raced Beauty Energy closed off nicely travelling last following a slow break. On his British form, he's crying out for a mile trip.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six: (42) - NEW YORK HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

ENCORE BOY shifted out at the start and inconvenienced BEST STEP.

Shortly after the start, KING GENKI was bumped on the hindquarters by SIXTY SIXTY which was taken out by VIGOR FAME.

Approaching the 950 Metres, TURF SPRINT was steadied away from the heels of ENCORE BOY (Apprentice H T Mo) which shifted in when not properly clear.

Apprentice Mo was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

SUPER MAN got its head on the side and lay out making the turn after the 700 Metres and consequently raced wide and without cover.

TURF SPRINT got its head on the side and lay out rounding the turn after the 700 Metres and then passing the 500 Metres was awkwardly placed inside the heels of KING GENKI when continuing to lay out.

Throughout the race, KING GENKI travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned, Apprentice M F Poon stated that he was asked to obtain a position behind the leaders on PHANTOM FALCON if possible.

He said PHANTOM FALCON has been known not to begin well on occasions and it was felt that there were horses which were drawn outside PHANTOM FALCON which would show more early speed than his mount and therefore obtaining a trailing position would provide PHANTOM FALCON with the best opportunity to finish off the race.

He said he was asked to remain in a position one horse away from the rail to allow PHANTOM FALCON the opportunity to shift directly to the outside of runners rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight.

He said PHANTOM FALCON began very well and he was able to cross runners to his inside without having to make too much use of the horse.

He said after clearing runners to his inside, he allowed HARBOUR ALERT and ENCORE BOY to cross PHANTOM FALCON which provided PHANTOM FALCON with the opportunity to race one horse away from the rail and behind the leaders as instructed.

He added rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight PHANTOM FALCON was left flat-footed and took some time to gather momentum.

He said however that over the latter stages of the race PHANTOM FALCON then finished off the race satisfactorily.

He said given the manner in which PHANTOM FALCON began in today's race, in retrospect, it may have been a better option to lead on the horse, however, he elected to obtain a trailing position which was in accordance with his instructions.

A veterinary inspection of STAR OF YAN OI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

HARBOUR ALERT and ENCORE BOY were sent for sampling.
