Circuit Glory defied a check at the 1,250m travelling box-seat to get up 220m out for a first win at his 12th start following a stable change. He had been threatening in numerous runs late season. Turin Redstar stayed on well for second chasing the leader Limitless from a wide gate. He acts well on both surfaces and courses and should pick up a win shortly. Kingsfield finished well to fill a placing after executing nicely to travel with cover ahead of midfield from a wide gate. He's made a nice impression in both Valley outings this term but is more effective over the 1,400m. Helene Charisma came from the rear after a tardy break to fill a Quartet spot. He isn't far off a bottom and prefers a longer trip. Jade Fortune ran on all right travelling near the back. He'll be a force to be reckoned with if he finds his way into a lesser class. Early favourite Winning Faith made some ground without menacing sitting fourth from the back. He needs a stronger rider.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (36) - WAH FU HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1650Meters

HELENE CHARISMA and WINNING FAITH were slow to begin.

LITTERATEUR and JADE FORTUNE bumped at the start.

XIANG BAI QI was crowded for room on jumping between TURIN REDSTAR and PRETTY BAUHINIA which shifted out.

Then from a wide barrier, XIANG BAI QI was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After being ridden along in the early stages from a wide barrier, KINGSFIELD, when racing very wide after passing the winning post on the first occasion, was steadied to obtain cover.

As KINGSFIELD was being steadied to shift in behind TURIN REDSTAR and PRETTY BAUHINIA, XIANG BAI QI, which was being ridden along, was steadied away from the heels of that horse and in doing so shifted in, resulting in LITTERATEUR being taken in onto JADE FORTUNE which in turn was taken in onto WINNING FAITH which was checked.

HELENE CHARISMA, which was following, was checked away from the heels of WINNING FAITH in consequence.

D Whyte (LIMITLESS) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 1300 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of CIRCUIT GLORY, resulting in that horse losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled and being checked.

D Whyte was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 3 October 2018 and to expire on Monday, 8 October 2018 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Whyte's good race riding record.

TURIN REDSTAR travelled wide and without cover until after the 900 Metres.

Approaching the 400 Metres, WINNING FAITH was awkwardly placed behind BLOCKER DEE.

After the 200 Metres, HELENE CHARISMA was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KINGSFIELD which shifted out marginally.

XIANG BAI QI was shifted out away from the heels of HELENE CHARISMA in consequence near the 150 Metres.

Passing the 150 Metres, WINNING FAITH was awkwardly placed behind LITTERATEUR when being shifted to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running.

When questioned, D Whyte stated that it was intended for LIMITLESS to be ridden in a position midfield or worse.

He said however LIMITLESS began very well and, despite his efforts, he was unable to restrain the horse to race off the speed.

He said LIMITLESS proved very difficult to settle in the early stages and he had no alternative but to allow the horse to lead.

He said, despite his efforts, LIMITLESS continued to travel keenly throughout the early and middle stages of the race and consequently was not able to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of LIMITLESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

CIRCUIT GLORY and TURIN REDSTAR were sent for sampling.

GENERAL:

1.

9 September 2018 Sha Tin Racemeeting - Race 7 (25) The Stewards tonight questioned K Teetan regarding his riding of ELECTRIC LIGHTNING in the middle stages in this race.

K Teetan stated that after being in a three wide position behind THE FULL BLOOM, he was able to shift in behind RED ELYSEES approaching the 1000 Metres in a two wide position.

He said he was content to follow RED ELYSEES as that horse was trailing SMART CHARADE, the favourite for the race.

He said he continued to follow RED ELYSEES as THE FULL BLOOM, which was racing to the outside of RED ELYSEES, had been three wide and without cover throughout the race and he felt that following RED ELYSEES and SMART CHARADE, which he both considered to be good chances in the race, would be in ELECTRIC LIGHTNING's best interests as he expected THE FULL BLOOM not be able to quicken as well as those horses due to having been forced to race wide and without cover.

He said for this reason he elected not to shift out from behind RED ELYSEES to follow THE FULL BLOOM after the 600 Metres which allowed LET US WIN to improve its position around ELECTRIC LIGHTNING.

He said at the entrance to the Straight he immediately shifted ELECTRIC LIGHTNING to the inside of RED ELYSEES to improve between that horse and PO CHING TREASURE, however, when that run closed, he was required to shift ELECTRIC LIGHTNING to the outside of runners near the 300 Metres to obtain clear running.

K Teetan agreed with the Stewards that, in retrospect, he should have shifted out to follow THE FULL BLOOM which would have provided ELECTRIC LIGHTNING the opportunity of shifting directly to the outside of that horse rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight and obtaining clear running.

He was advised to ensure that he positions his horses so as to obtain clear running wherever circumstances permit so that there can be no room for query regarding his riding.
