Recap by phillip woo

Well-backed late, Le Panache dashed clear 200m out following a patient ride in midfield on the fence. There's clearly another win in him if he remains in the grade over the 1,600m and further. Favourite Sports Master found one too good after putting his nose in front approaching the 200m following a handy run. He lived up to a solid trial and there's certainly a win in store. The Show kept grinding away to fill a minor placing after being held up early straight following a box-seat run. He's well rated off his current mark and can pop up at any moment. Lucky Storm gradually faded after leading from a wide gate. He's improved following a stable change. Kwaichung Brothers ran into a bit of traffic mid-stretch after settling last from a wide gate. He should have finished closer. Proud Sky made some ground late without menacing from behind midfield. He requires a touch further. Best Effort will sleep well after a very tough run in midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (2) - TIM WA HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1600Meters

SPORTS MASTER began awkwardly.

From wide barriers, SUNNY ORIENT and KWAICHUNG BROTHERS were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After being ridden along in the early stages to obtain the lead, LUCKY STORM proved difficult to settle for some distance approaching and passing the 1400 Metres.

Approaching the 1500 Metres, PROUD SKY, which had been racing tight between THE SHOW and SPORTS MASTER, was steadied when crowded for room inside SPORTS MASTER which was directed in by TRIUMPHANT LIGHT (N Callan).

N Callan was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

M L Yeung (BEST EFFORT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1400 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of WONDERFUL CHASER, causing that horse to be checked and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled.

M L Yeung was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 16 September 2018 and to expire on Sunday, 23 September 2018 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

In addition, M L Yeung was fined $12,500.

After the 1300 Metres, BEST EFFORT was left racing wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.

Rounding the Home Turn, WONDERFUL CHASER was taken wider by SUNNY ORIENT which shifted out to obtain clear running.

THE SHOW had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.

Approaching the 300 Metres, SUNNY ORIENT got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of PROUD SKY (K Teetan) which got its head on the side and lay out under pressure.

K Teetan was advised to exercise more care.

Near the 50 Metres, N Callan dropped his right rein.

After the race, G van Niekerk (WONDERFUL CHASER) reported that it had been intended for the horse to be ridden in a more forward position, however, after beginning awkwardly, WONDERFUL CHASER, despite being ridden along, would not respond to his riding and then after striking interference near the 1400 Metres was required to race much further back in the field than had been hoped.

A veterinary inspection of WONDERFUL CHASER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of BEST EFFORT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

LE PANACHE and SPORTS MASTER were sent for sampling.
