Recap by phillip woo

California Fortune kept up a strong gallop after floating to the front from a wide gate to notch a third win this term. He's a dangerous type when loose on the lead. Dragon General came from last to grab second. He's capable of big runs but has trouble winning at this level. Star Shine finished nicely near the outside after settling fourth from the rear to fill a placing. He's handled a rise in class without a hitch. Fancied late Raging Storm stayed on well following a deep run with cover in midfield from a wide gate to just scrape in for fourth. My Darling came on strongly travelling second from the back to miss a Quartet spot in a revitalised effort. He's talented when right. Baltic Whisper didn't quite get the trip settling box-seat after sharing the early lead. He remains one to keep safe back over the straight 1,000m. Raging favourite Mission Tycoon was struggling following a handy run and eased down over the final 200m. There may have been health issues.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (766) - THE HONG KONG REUNIFICATION CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 2 - 1200Meters

GOOD STANDING was withdrawn on 29.6.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever).

Before being allowed to race again, GOOD STANDING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

SEVEN HEAVENS, which began only fairly, was checked on jumping when crowded for room between FANTASTIC EIGHT which shifted out marginally and MISSION TYCOON which shifted in after making contact with MY ALLY.

E-SUPER began awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in DRAGON GENERAL being crowded for room inside CALIFORNIA FORTUNE which shifted in.

From wide barriers, MY DARLING and DRAGON GENERAL were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

A short distance after the start, RAGING STORM was crowded for room between E-SUPER and MY DARLING which was taken out by BALTIC WHISPER.

STAR SHINE was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.

Near the 1050 Metres, SEVEN HEAVENS, which improved its position quickly, was crowded for room inside ALWAYS WIN which shifted in before being directed out abruptly to relieve the tightening to SEVEN HEAVENS.

At the 900 Metres, E-SUPER (Apprentice C Wong) became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by MY ALLY which shifted out.

After this, E-SUPER shifted in, resulting in MY ALLY being taken in onto MISSION TYCOON, causing that horse to be buffeted inside MY ALLY and to shift in, resulting in FANTASTIC EIGHT also being crowded for room.

Apprentice Wong was advised that whilst the initial contact had been due to MY ALLY shifting out which unbalanced E-SUPER, nonetheless, in the opinion of the Stewards, he had failed to take the necessary measures to ensure that horses to his inside had the necessary racing room and for this he was reprimanded.

Making the turn near after the 900 Metres, RAGING STORM shifted in and bumped ALWAYS WIN.

Passing the 300 Metres, KEY WITNESS was steadied away from the heels of ALWAYS WIN when having difficulty obtaining clear running.

KEY WITNESS was then held up for clear running passing the 250 Metres.

M L Yeung (ALWAYS WIN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 150 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of KEY WITNESS, causing that horse to be taken out across the rightful running of MY ALLY which was checked when crowded for room inside E-SUPER.

M L Yeung was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 11 July 2018 and to expire on Monday, 16 July 2018 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

In addition, M L Yeung was fined $25,000.

A veterinary inspection of SEVEN HEAVENS immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a laceration to the left stifle.

A veterinary inspection of MISSION TYCOON immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg.

Before being allowed to race again, MISSION TYCOON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

MISSION TYCOON, CALIFORNIA FORTUNE and DRAGON GENERAL were sent for sampling.
