Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Merrygowin surged to the lead 150m out along the inside following a box-seat run and just held off Gentry by a whisker for an overdue win with a step up to a mile. He goes very well for Zac Purton and deserves another crack in Class Three. Gentry stayed on very well following a midfield run on the fence to make it close on the wire. He rarely produces a bad run over this Valley trip. Sparkling Sword stuck on nicely after softening I'm A Witness for the front to finish a stride behind the top pair. He appears from his past two to be near a bottom. Kiram ran on a non-threatening fourth after settling behind midfield on the fence from a wide gate. He's in the right class but the big weight is a tough hurdle to clear. Sichuan Boss stuck on all right after taking off without cover at the 550m travelling fore of midfield. He did have excuses. I'm A Witness didn't really have much time to catch his breath in front and wasn't beaten too far in the end.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four: (598) - DAEGU HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

On arrival at the Start, GLORY STAR's bridle was refitted.

From wide barriers, PO CHING TREASURE, FRESH POWER, SPINNING DANCER and KIRAM were all steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, PO CHING TREASURE was awkwardly placed behind GOUTEN OF GARO when being shifted across behind that horse.

After being ridden along approaching and passing the winning post on the first occasion in an attempt to improve inside GENTRY, KIRAM was steadied away from the heels of that horse when GENTRY was taken in by ALL YOU KNOW (D Whyte) which at this time was steadied to obtain a position with cover behind SICHUAN BOSS.

D Whyte was advised to ensure that he exercises due care when steadying his mount to obtain cover.

GLORY STAR travelled wide and without cover until passing the 900 Metres and then in the Straight gave ground.

When questioned, K C Ng (I'M A WITNESS) stated that after the 1200 Metres his mount commenced to lay out and travelled keenly.

He said he had a tight hold of the horse's inside rein in an attempt to have it steady the tempo in the lead as he was aware that the race was being run at a particularly quick tempo.

He said he continued to maintain a tight hold of his right rein to ensure that I'M A WITNESS did not shift away from the rail, but also in an endeavour to steady the tempo.

He said however that I'M A WITNESS travelled too keenly in the lead in the middle stages and would not settle.

After the race, K Teetan (FRESH POWER) stated that the horse did not appear to handle the Happy Valley circuit at its first time of asking tonight.

A veterinary inspection of FRESH POWER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of GLORY STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.

MERRYGOWIN and GENTRY were sent for sampling.
