Racing Incident Report
Race Seven: (490) - THE SINGAPORE TURF CLUB TROPHY (HANDICAP) - Class 1 - 1200Meters
Both ARCHIPPUS and DUNDONNELL began very awkwardly and then from the outside barriers were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
FABULOUS ONE began awkwardly.
N Callan (PENIAPHOBIA) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that shortly after the start, when riding his mount along, he permitted it to shift in when not clear of MAGIC LEGEND, causing that horse to be checked and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled.
N Callan was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 28 March 2018 and to expire on Tuesday, 3 April 2018 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).
In addition, N Callan was fined $15,000.
DUNDONNELL lost its left front plate after the 1000 Metres.
WAH MAY FRIEND (Apprentice H T Mo) shifted out near the 250 Metres, inconveniencing HOUSE OF FUN.
Apprentice Mo was advised to exercise more care.
When questioned regarding the performance of HOUSE OF FUN, K Teetan stated that the horse did not show as much early speed as had been anticipated and therefore after riding his mount along in the early stages to obtain a forward position, he steadied HOUSE OF FUN near the 1100 Metres with a view to obtaining cover behind WAH MAY FRIEND which he anticipated would take up a forward position.
He said however when WAH MAY FRIEND did not continue on to clear WINNER'S WAY on its inside, HOUSE OF FUN was left racing outside that horse which allowed BORN IN CHINA the opportunity to improve its position and follow WAY MAY FRIEND which resulted in HOUSE OF FUN being left racing very wide and without cover.
He added, irrespective of HOUSE OF FUN having to race wide and without cover, the horse came under heavy pressure shortly after entering the Straight and then passing the 300 Metres was already a beaten horse.
He said HOUSE OF FUN was disappointing as he anticipated that the horse would be able to progress further in the Straight before the wide trip took effect on the horse's finishing effort.
He said although HOUSE OF FUN was hampered near the 250 Metres, the horse was already giving ground at this time and this had no bearing on its finishing position.
He said after the race HOUSE OF FUN appeared normal and therefore he was not able to explain the horse's disappointing run.
A veterinary inspection of HOUSE OF FUN immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.
The performance of HOUSE OF FUN, a favourite for today's race, was considered unacceptable.
Before being allowed to race again, HOUSE OF FUN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
DUNDONNELL lost its right front plate at the entrance to the Straight.
Throughout the race, WAH MAY FRIEND travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.

HOUSE OF FUN, AMAZING KIDS and FABULOUS ONE were sent for sampling.

Top-weighted Amazing Kids had a training setback with an elevated temperature but proved too classy to mow down outsider Fabulous One 30m out from behind midfield as the early favourite for a seventh career win. He's a classy sprinter. Fabulous One cleared to the lead at the 1,000m from a tricky gate and wouldn't go down without a fight. He makes his own luck in front and appreciated the feather weight. Winner's Way stuck on gamely chasing the leader one off to just hold a placing. It was a good effort to place following a mile second at the Valley but does have trouble winning off his current mark. Magic Legend came on nicely after travelling behind midfield to just miss a placing. He's run reasonably well in each of his three starts over this trip and is slowly but surely finding his way back down to a competitive mark. Born In China made some ground late from the near the back without menacing. He's clearly better at the Valley.
