Racing Incident Report
Race Ten: (418) - PO YAN HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1200Meters
Whilst in the saddling stalls, FABULOUS ONE had its left front plate refitted.
FABULOUS ONE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.
Just prior to the start being effected, WONDERFUL JOURNEY became fractious and then as the start was effected was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, HOUSE OF FUN and MOMENTUM LUCKY raced tight between PERPETUAL JOYANCE and FABULOUS ONE, both of which shifted ground.
When being steadied to obtain cover from a wide barrier, SEVEN HEAVENS got its head up and travelled keenly.
From wide barriers, KEY WITNESS and JOLLY JOLLY were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
In the early stages, FABULOUS ONE travelled wide and without cover and after the 800 Metres was steadied to obtain a trailing position.
Approaching the 300 Metres, FABULOUS ONE was steadied away from the heels of MARVEL TRIBE (M L Yeung) which shifted out when not quite clear.
M L Yeung was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Also approaching the 300 Metres, SEVEN HEAVENS was steadied away from the heels of PERPETUAL JOYANCE (O Doleuze) which shifted out when not clear.
O Doleuze was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Passing the 300 Metres, PERPETUAL JOYANCE, after being shifted out, got its head on the side and shifted out further, resulting in MOMENTUM LUCKY being inconvenienced.
Passing the 150 Metres, JOLLY JOLLY, which was finishing off the race strongly, was directed out away from the heels of CALIFORNIA FORTUNE to continue improving.
After the race, M Chadwick (CALIFORNIA FORTUNE) stated that the horse travelled too keenly when racing between PABLOSKY and FABULOUS ONE in the early stages and because of this was not able to finish off the race as it did last start.
A veterinary inspection of CALIFORNIA FORTUNE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of FABULOUS ONE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of PABLOSKY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
HOUSE OF FUN, PERPETUAL JOYANCE and MARVEL TRIBE were sent for sampling.
GENERAL:
1.
Jockey C Y Ho was fined the sum of $2,000 for failing to arrive on course by the required time.

7 February 2018 Happy Valley Racemeeting - Race 6 (406) The Stewards today questioned Trainer L Ho regarding the instructions given to K C Leung, the rider of GOOD CHOICE AHEAD in this race.
Mr Ho stated that at its prior start on 10 January 2018, K Teetan had informed him that he believed that GOOD CHOICE AHEAD would benefit from blinkers being added to the horse's gear in order for it to focus better.
He said Jockey Teetan had mentioned at its last start the horse had taken some time to respond to his riding in the Straight but then had finished off the race well.
Mr Ho said it was felt that the addition of blinkers would assist the horse in being able to finish off the race stronger.
He said in this race it was felt that there was a lack of genuine speed and with the blinkers reapplied, it was hoped that GOOD CHOICE AHEAD would be able to obtain a position with cover behind the likely leaders of the race.
He said however that due to the circumstances of the race GOOD CHOICE AHEAD had been left racing without cover and had travelled too strongly with the blinkers reapplied.
He said he felt that for this reason the horse was then not able to finish off the race.
He added since the race he had formed the view that GOOD CHOICE AHEAD is not suited to wearing blinkers and therefore he will apply to remove the blinkers from the horse at its next race start.
He said it is still hoped that the horse will be able to obtain a forward position, however, to obtain cover so as to allow it to finish off the race as best as it is able.

Additional Veterinary Reports from Happy Valley Racemeeting on 7 February 2018 Subsequent official veterinary inspections (without endoscopy) of FINE WITH ME, HAPPY ROCKY, GARLIC YEAH, PACKING DRAGON, PRAWN BABA, SHARPMIND, FUNNY BUDDIES, GOLDEN GLORY, NAVAS, NUMERO UNO, HIGH VOLATILITY, GENTRY, CHARITY GLORY, SPRING WIN, LET'S TAKE IT EASY and IMPERIAL GALLANTRY revealed no apparent abnormality.

Racing Laboratory tests of WINNING SUPREME, LUNAR ZEPHYR, MY GIFT, WONDERFUL CHASER, WINASWEWISH, DARING HEART, WIN FOR CHARITY, MONEY WINNER, HAPPY HAPPY, APPLAUSE, DR PROACTIVE, THE GOLDEN AGE, DINOZZO, MARVEL HERO, RAZOR QUEST, BULLISH SMART, SUPER FLUKE, CALIFORNIA WHIP, BOLD STITCH and BACK IN BLACK (31.1.18) proved negative.

Suited by the pace in front, the late-fancied Perpetual Joyance came with a barnstorming run from behind midfield after switching out at the 300m to mow them down 50m out for a third win this term. Marvel Tribe wouldn't go down without a fight after surging to a narrow lead following a prominent run at the 150m. He's on rating high but keep stepping up this term over the 1,200m and 1,400m. House Of Fun found a couple too good after looming a chance at the 150m following a handy run. The big weight took its toll in the end. Jolly Jolly came with a ducking-and-weaving run late to just finish out of the placings in his first run following a heart irregularity. Key Witness came on very well down the outside but left things too late after fading back from a tricky gate. He's always a chance over this Sha Tin trip. Fabulous One took the sit when finding a couple too swift underneath him but failed to lift when push came to shove in the drive.
