Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Actuariat just held off longshot Carry To Win after hitting the front 80m out following a prominent run on the fence to finally open his win account at his 25th start. Carry To Win finished nicely after settling second from the rear to make it close on the wire in a vastly-improved effort at his 15th start following a stable change and gear changes. Veteran Trendiful stuck on a non-threatening third following a one-off run outside the winner. He does appear from his past two to be near a bottom. Specked late A Fast One got going late one with one wider out following a patient ride second from the rear. He's a winner waiting to happen at this level but it's likely to come over the 1,200m. Kim Glory kept on all right following a deep run without cover travelling fore of midfield. Keep him safe when drawing on the fence from gate one, two or three. Glory Horsie failed to build on a near win last start when running on without menacing.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (329) - PATERSON HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1000Meters

On jumping, WORLD CITY lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently lost ground.

CARRY TO WIN began only fairly and then on jumping became unbalanced when crowded for room inside SPARKLING TALENT which shifted in.

After this, SPARKLING TALENT, from a wide barrier, was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover and, despite being vigorously ridden in the early and middle stages, raced detached from the main body of the field.

A FAST ONE shifted out at the start and bumped RUMINARE.

From the outside barrier, HIGHLAND DRAGON was steadied in the early stages in an endeavour to obtain cover.

Near the 950 Metres, KING'S STEED shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of GLORY HORSIE.

Passing the 800 Metres, KING'S STEED momentarily raced in restricted room between ACTUARIAT and GLORY HORSIE which got its head on the side and shifted in marginally away from KIM GLORY.

Approaching the 600 Metres, KING'S STEED got its head up when awkwardly placed inside the heels of GLORY HORSIE.

For some distance after this, KING'S STEED continued to get its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GLORY HORSIE.

For the majority of the race, KIM GLORY travelled wide and without cover and making the turn near the 550 Metres was awkwardly placed outside the heels of TRENDIFUL which lay out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of RUMINARE.

In the early part of the Straight, A FAST ONE and HIGHLAND DRAGON raced tight.

Passing the 300 Metres, CARRY TO WIN was shifted in away from the heels of WORLD CITY to obtain clear running.

Passing the 50 Metres, KING'S STEED shifted out and bumped KIM GLORY, causing both horses to become unbalanced.

After this, KING'S STEED and KIM GLORY raced tight and then close to the finishing line, KIM GLORY was crowded for room between KING'S STEED and A FAST ONE which lay in under pressure.

In this incident, KING'S STEED also became unbalanced.

Because of the manner in which A FAST ONE was shifting in, D Whyte, the rider of that horse, was not able to ride the horse out over the concluding stages.

After the race, it was noted that HIGHLAND DRAGON was making an abnormal breathing noise.

The Veterinary Officer said the horse was a "roarer??as previously reported, however, in addition HIGHLAND DRAGON was found to have a displaced soft palate.

A veterinary inspection of SPARKLING TALENT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

ACTUARIAT and CARRY TO WIN were sent for sampling.
