Recap by phillip woo

London Master finished strongly on the far side after settling among the back-markers to take control 120m out. He appreciated the step back to the straight 1,000m where he how has a record of two wins and a placing from five starts. Exceptional Desire just held on for second after assuming the lead 700m following a good start from gate two. He appears to have turned the corner after two ordinary runs last season. Manful Star travelled behind midfield and came on well after switching to the centre of the track at the 250m to make it tight for second. He's heading in the right direction after showing progress in his final two of five runs last term and will be looking forward to a rise in trip. Peace Combination was a non-threatening fourth after shifting ground approaching the 100m following a prominent run. He's honest but has a terrible time trying to win. Debutant Jungle King stayed on okay after having to steady 100m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (38) - HWAMEI HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1000Meters

LOOK ERAS began awkwardly and lost ground.

Shortly after the start, LONDON MASTER and EXCEPTIONAL DESIRE bumped due to both horses shifting ground.

Over the final 300 Metres, EXCEPTIONAL DESIRE lay in under pressure.

Approaching the 100 Metres, JUNGLE KING was shifted out away from the heels of PEACE COMBINATION which shifted out under pressure before being corrected by its rider.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BEEKELY, Apprentice M F Poon stated that he was able to obtain a forward position on BEEKELY in the early stages, however, the horse did not travel strongly in the middle stages as it did when ridden by him towards the end of last season.

He said BEEKELY travelled only fairly until the 500 Metres at which time the horse came under heavy pressure.

He said, despite being ridden out, BEEKELY was disappointing in the manner in which it gave ground, particularly over the final 300 Metres.

He added the manner in which BEEKELY failed to travel comfortably indicated to him that the horse may not have appreciated today's track surface albeit that it had previously raced well on a track rated "Good to Firm?? Trainer D J Hall stated that, in his opinion, BEEKELY would likely benefit from more give in the track.

He said the hose trialed well in the lead up to today's race on the All Weather Track which is more forgiving than today's surface.

He said whilst the horse had previously raced competitively on a track similarly rated to today's, he believed that it may not have let down today on the surface.

A veterinary inspection of BEEKELY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of BEEKELY, a favourite for today's race, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, BEEKELY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of FISH N' CHIPS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

BEEKELY, LONDON MASTER and EXCEPTIONAL DESIRE were sent for sampling.
