Recap by phillip woo

Winwin Ruby dashed to the front 150m out following a prominent run and kept on well to open his win account at his fifth start. The switch to blinkers has improved him many lengths and he can win another in the grade. Citron Spirit finished strongly despite a moderate early pace to come from last after jumping slowly to snatch second on the wire despite top weight. He appears to have more points in hand. Well-punted late, Bring It On was nipped late for second after coming on near the inside following a midfield run. He flashes ability at times but isn't reliable. Razor Quest finished willingly late from beyond midfield. He's always a chance over this trip but needs a strong pace. Energetic Class grudgingly gave way after pushing to the lead 900m out following an early run without cover near the speed. He isn't far off a winning run but is likely to land that in Class Four. Late-fancied favourite Go Beauty Go gradually faded over the last 150m after dictating the early run. He might be on or near his mark following a fourth win last time out. Early favourite Bank On Red made ground late from behind midfield. He might have had a case of seconditis and still looks a nice type going forward.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (758)-JASPER HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1600Metres

As the start was effected, CITRON SPIRIT, which was fractious in the barriers, lunged at the front gates, began very awkwardly and shifted out abruptly, resulting in the horse losing a considerable amount of ground.

Before being allowed to race again, CITRON SPIRIT will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.

QUICK RETURN began awkwardly, shifted out at the start and bumped BANK ON RED.

From a wide barrier, FRIENDS OF NANJING was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Approaching the 50 Metres, GO BEAUTY GO shifted out and bumped SMILING CHARM which became unbalanced.

When questioned, W M Lai (ENERGETIC CLASS) stated that it had been intended for the horse to be ridden at the rear of the field from the outside barrier.

He said ENERGETIC CLASS began very awkwardly and he immediately took hold of his mount with a view to steadying the horse across behind runners.

He said however that ENERGETIC CLASS proved very difficult to settle and would not respond to his attempts to steady the horse which resulted in it racing in a forward position wide and without cover in the early stages.

He said he continued to restrain the horse in order to obtain a trailing position behind A BEAUTIFUL, however it was not possible for him to shift in at this time and ENERGETIC CLASS continued to over-race.

He said rather than race wide, he allowed his mount to improve forward of A BEAUTIFUL passing the 1000 Metres and had intended racing outside the leader GO BEAUTY GO.

He said however that ENERGETIC CLASS continued to prove very difficult to settle and for this reason he allowed it to continue on into the lead in the hope that this would have ENERGETIC CLASS settle better.

Mr C W Chang, the trainer of ENERGETIC CLASS, confirmed the instructions given to Jockey Lai and that the intention was for the horse to be ridden at the rear of the field.

He said after viewing the video he was satisfied that it was the racing manners of ENERGETIC CLASS which had resulted in the horse racing in a far more forward position than had been intended.

After the race, J Moreira stated that BANK ON RED did not close off the race in the Straight as he expected.

A veterinary inspection of BANK ON RED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of SMILING CHARM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

GO BEAUTY GO, WINWIN RUBY and CITRON SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
