Returning off a break, Kiram quickened nicely to get up in the final few strides after finding a spot on his lonesome behind midfield despite a wide gate to land a betting plunge. It was his maiden win from 26 starts but he has fresh legs and might be able to land another before season's end. Bullish Smart worked to the lead 100m out following a midfield run and was collared in the deep stretch. He relished the downgrade but the 18-pound swing in the weights was too much to overcome. Early favourite Spicy Sure found the front 250m out following a box-seat run and found a couple too good in the end. He can get away with a race soon in this grade. Land Grant was held up for a run near the inside until the 100m following a one-out, one-back run. He should have gone closer with unimpeded running. Super Sprinter grudgingly gave way after stalking the leader one off the fence. He's honest but does find it hard at this level. Post-time favourite Star Majestic ran on late without menacing after travelling fourth from the rear. The Valley's his track but he needs a longer trip.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (750)-CHEUNG CHAU HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Metres

GOLDEN SLEEP was withdrawn on 20.6.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (injury to left front foot) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter THE JOY OF GIVING (W M Lai).

Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN SLEEP will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

THE JOY OF GIVING and FANTASTIC KAKA were slow to begin and then on jumping THE JOY OF GIVING was bumped by FANTASTIC KAKA which was taken in by SUPER SPRINTER which shifted in.

GAMECHANGERS shifted out at the start and bumped STAR MAJESTIC.

From a wide barrier, SUPER MAN was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.

For some distance approaching and passing the 1100 Metres, KIRAM travelled keenly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BULLISH SMART.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, FANTASTIC KAKA shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of KIRAM.

KIRAM then became unbalanced and lay in, resulting in FANTASTIC KAKA being crowded for room..

Near the 250 Metres, SPICY SURE raced tight inside SKYROCKETS which shifted in.

After this, SPICY SURE and SKYROCKETS continued to race tight for a short distance.

Passing the 250 Metres, GAMECHANGERS was shifted out away from the heels of LAND GRANT which shifted in.

Also passing the 250 Metres, SUPER SPRINTER was awkwardly placed outside SKYROCKETS.

Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of Apprentice M F Poon (SUPER SPRINTER), 5th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, nonetheless he will be advised to ensure that he rides his mounts out all the way to the end of the race where circumstances permit.

A veterinary inspection of SKYROCKETS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SUPER SPRINTER was lame in its right front leg.

Before being allowed to race again, SUPER SPRINTER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

STAR MAJESTIC, KIRAM and BULLISH SMART were sent for sampling.

GENERAL:

Races 2 - 8 were each put back 5 minutes.



2.

After the running of Race 1, the track classification was officially changed from "Good to Yielding' to "Good".

This change in the opinion of the Stewards should be recorded as being retrospective.

As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 1 being run on a track rated "Good".

Racing Laboratory tests of LUNAR ZEPHYR, ENCORE BOY, ACTUARIAT, MASSIVE MOVE, SNOWHOOVES, SMART BOY, SILLY BUDDIES, ROCHFORD, BEST REWARD, GARLIC YEAH, PO CHING TREASURE, INFINITY ENDEAVOUR, MASTER ALBERT, PERPETUAL JOYANCE, FANTASTIC EIGHT, BEAT THE CLOCK, LIMITLESS, PAKISTAN BABY, PERPETUAL TREASURE, ARIZONA BLIZZARD, REGENCY BO BO, CLASSIC EMPEROR, ENERGETIC CLASS, UNICRON JEWELLERY, GO BEAUTY GO and SMILING CHARM (11.6.17) proved negative.
