Racing Incident Report
Race Five: (683)-VIVA PATACA HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1400Metres
SANTA FE SUN was withdrawn on 27.5.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore).Before being allowed to race again, SANTA FE SUN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
As the start was effected, CLEVER BEAVER reared and lost a considerable amount of ground.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that CLEVER BEAVER was lame in its right front and right hind legs.
Before being allowed to race again, CLEVER BEAVER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
HEALTHY JOYFUL and SUPER CHIC bumped at the start.
HEALTHY JOYFUL was then crowded for room a short distance after the start between SUPER CHIC and BULLISH SMART which shifted out.
From the outside barriers, ALL YOU WISH and STAR MAJESTIC were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After the 1200 Metres, MIDNIGHT RATTLER commenced to prove very difficult to settle and approaching the 1100 Metres shifted out away from the heels of MY DARLING and in doing so bumped the hindquarters of CONSORT which became unbalanced.
Passing the 400 Metres, STAR MAJESTIC was bumped by ALL YOU WISH which shifted out to obtain clear running.
Throughout the race, CONSORT (S de Sousa) travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.
Prior to leaving the track, S de Sousa dismounted from CONSORT.
A veterinary inspection of CONSORT immediately following the race found that horse to have swelling over the outside of the right front fetlock.
Before being allowed to race again, CONSORT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Apprentice M F Poon was not able to offer any explanation for the performance of MIDNIGHT RATTLER.
He said although the horse was inclined to over-race in the early stages and was obliged to travel three wide, it at all times had cover, however, did not quicken when placed under pressure and then did not finish off the race.
A veterinary inspection of MIDNIGHT RATTLER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
MY DARLING and HANG'S DECISION were sent for sampling.

Raging favourite My Darling landed a beautiful spot one off in third from a tricky gate, dashed to the front 350m out and kept up a strong gallop for a fifth win from 12 starts following a terribly unlucky run last time out. He's got more points in hand and the versatility to be effective over the 1,200m to 1,600m. Hang's Decision had every chance following a midfield but still finished off well enough to grab second 100m out. He's been an absolute model of consistency in his 10 starts_ two wins, and can never be left out of calculations. Baba Mama ran on steadily following a rail's run in midfield to fill a placing. It was a positive run but he has been up and running since the start of the season and needs a break. Star Majestic finished well after a deep run with cover beyond midfield to run down Bullish Smart for a Quartet spot. He's fallen below a winning run last season at the Valley but do prefer him down a class with a claimer on board. Bullish Smart was on his tippy toes 100m out after dictating the run. He's clearly a Class Three horse. Healthy Joyful made only a mild bid after rolling off the fence 300m out travelling behind midfield. He too is one who is a better chance in Class Three.
