Recap by phillip woo
Short-priced favourite Winner's Way pressed to the front 1,250m out and kept up a strong gallop to notch a fourth win from nine starts this term. He continues to frank the form of the four-year-olds this season and a group win over 1,400m or a mile isn't far away. Horse Of Fortune came from the tail of the field to run down California Whip 30m out for second. He's lost his way in recent runs but is a quality act on his day. California Whip eased back after showing gate speed to make his run second from the rear, rushed forward to get to second 200m out and peaked on his run inside the 100m. He might be better suited in an 80-100 range race. Punted late, Pablosky was restrained despite jumping well to travel third from the back but did make up ground late to fill a Quartet spot. He appears from his past few to be bottoming out and can strike any time sprinting over the 1,200m on either surface. Lucky Year had no excuse following a oneout, one-back run. He's more effective over the 1,200m. Midnight Rattler offered next to nothing after pressing forward to stalk the leader. This was too rich a test following a win.
