Recap by phillip woo
Jolly Gene was perfectly rated after working to the front 1,700m out and kicked well to chalk up a deserving win after putting the writing on the wall in recent runs. He should remain competitive in the grade over the 1,800m or 2,000m at either track. Favourite Ensuring settled second from the rear after jumping slowly and finished well weaving a run near the inside to grab the Quinella spot in deep stretch. The big weight was the difference in the end. He's a winner waiting to happen in this grade. Green Dispatch kept on well for a placing after stalking the speed one off in second despite being posted deep early on. He's not reliable but is more effective over the 1,800m. Lotus Strikes Back got going late to finish a clear-cut fourth after a patient ride third from the rear. He's an honest sort but appears from his past few to be on or near his mark. Razor Quest and the late-plunged Up And Coming failed to get the trip following ideal runs.
