Recap by phillip woo

Shamal enjoyed an uncontested lead and kept up a strong gallop to make it a hat-trick of wins. He's really come into his own in recent starts and should remain competitive off a light weight up in class. Lucky Dollar rushed forward from gate 14 to eventually settle on the back of the leader and kept on gamely for second in a promising debut. He's got some above average ability and won't be far off a winning run. Favourite Happy Happy Star was on heels and had to check 600m out travelling prominent along the fence but still stuck on reasonably well to place. At three years of age and with only four runs under his belt, he's got more improvement to come. Winfield finished well down the outside after travelling at the rear following a slow break. He's shown promise at times and may be near a bottom. Wah May Baby stayed on all right traveling worse than midfield and looks a winner waiting to happen if he can get the drop into Class Four. Dukedom did make ground late near the inside after travelling second from the back. It was a better run in blinkers and a step to 1,400m might suit better now.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine: (615)-AUDEMARS PIGUET ROYAL OAK CONCEPT HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Metres

PRIMERO was withdrawn on 29.4.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter RAPHAEL (C Y Ho).

Before being allowed to race again, PRIMERO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

DUKEDOM, which was fractious in the barriers, will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test before being allowed to race again.

After travelling about 100 Metres, D Whyte (DUKEDOM) looked down to his right side.

After the race, D Whyte said he noted some blood on his gloves at this time and felt that the horse may have bled, however, satisfied himself that the blood did not originate from the horse's nose.

DUKEDOM was subsequently examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse had blood at its mouth.

HO HO HORSE lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin.

WINFIELD and LET'S TAKE IT EASY were slow to begin.

Approaching the 1000 Metres, WAH MAY BABY was bumped by HARBOUR NOVA which shifted in.

WAH MAY BABY then raced tight inside HARBOUR NOVA for a short distance after the 1000 Metres.

Passing the 900 Metres, RAPHAEL was steadied when momentarily crowded for room between LET'S TAKE IT EASY and WAH MAY BABY which shifted in after racing tight inside HARBOUR NOVA.

Near the 750 Metres, HAPPY HAPPY STAR got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of LUCKY DOLLAR.

In this incident, HAPPY HAPPY STAR shifted out, resulting in TANG FLEMING and HARBOUR NOVA being hampered.

HAPPY HAPPY STAR then continued to race keenly and passing the 600 Metres again got its head up when being checked away from the heels of LUCKY DOLLAR.

In this incident, HAPPY HAPPY STAR again shifted out, resulting in TANG FLEMING racing tight between that horse and HARBOUR NOVA which for the majority of the race travelled wide and without cover.

HAPPY HAPPY STAR had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and near the 300 Metres was shifted to the inside of RIGHT CALL to improve.

Passing the 200 Metres, TANG FLEMING momentarily raced tight between HARBOUR NOVA and WAH MAY BABY.

Over the concluding stages, LUCKY DOLLAR shifted out under pressure.

In the Straight, WAH MAY BABY lay in under pressure.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on RAPHAEL at the request of Trainer C Fownes.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, RAPHAEL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of TANG FLEMING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.

A veterinary inspection of CHEER WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

HAPPY HAPPY STAR, SHAMAL and LUCKY DOLLAR were sent for sampling.
