Recap by phillip woo

Atomic Blast was patiently ridden behind midfield, angled into the open with two wider out upon straightening and finished well to cut them down in the final few metres for a second win. He clicks on both surfaces and should be able to win another near the top of the class. Punted late Planet Giant poked his head in front at the 80m after being niggled punch the breeze in second behind the leader Faithful Boy and found one just too good in the end. He'll be a live chance if he can draw a gate over the mile on either surface. Faithful Boy showed superior gate speed to lead from gate four and wouldn't go down without a fight with money coming for him late. He's not reliable but can give a cheeky sight up front at times. Aeroluminace came on settling midfield to make it a blanket finish. He needs at least 1,800m. Favourite Super Sweet Orange was under the pump a long ways out after being posted deep without cover until settling one-off in fourth midrace. He had excuses but isn't genuine. Treasure And Gold had no excuse travelling box seat. He didn't get the trip.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (599)-GWANGJU HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1650Metres

On proceeding to the barriers, C Y Ho was dislodged from MANHATTAN STRIKER without incident.

HAR HAR CHARMING began awkwardly and then from an outside barrier was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.

DIGITAL PIONEER lost ground on jumping when crowded for room between PERFECT TIMING which dipped at the start and VIVACIOUS WINNER which shifted out.

After this, DIGITAL PIONEER was shifted across behind runners.

Despite being vigorously ridden in the early stages, VIVACIOUS WINNER failed to muster speed.

After the 1200 Metres, FAITHFUL BOY got its head up and travelled keenly when being steadied in the lead.

After the 1000 Metres, SUPER SWEET ORANGE got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of PLANET GIANT when being shifted in behind that horse.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, TREASURE AND GOLD raced tight inside PLANET GIANT which got its head on the side and lay in.

AEROLUMINANCE lost its right hind plate on straightening.

When questioned regarding his riding of AEROLUMINANCE after the 1100 Metres, K Teetan stated that he was instructed to ride AEROLUMINANCE in about a midfield position if possible, however, he was not to ride his mount along as the horse had not been finishing off its races when ridden along in the early part of the race.

He said approaching the 1100 Metres he was racing behind PLANET GIANT and SUPER SWEET ORANGE outside his mount in a three wide position without cover.

He said after the 1100 Metres J Moreira, the rider of SUPER SWEET ORANGE, placed pressure on AEROLUMINANCE by shifting in marginally with a view to obtaining a tight position between PLANET GIANT and AEROLUMINANCE.

He said he felt at this time he would have had to ride his mount along to establish his positon inside SUPER SWEET ORANGE and as his mount was travelling well he was reluctant, given his instructions, to do so at this time.

He said he therefore allowed SUPER SWEET ORANGE to obtain the position in front of AEROLUMINANCE and behind PLANET GIANT to ensure that AEROLUMINANCE remained travelling comfortably.

Having considered the matter, the Stewards accepted Jockey Teetan??s evidence and no further action was taken.

The Stewards questioned Apprentice H N Wong regarding his riding of FAITHFUL BOY over the concluding stages.

Apprentice Wong stated that he had placed FAITHFUL BOY under heavy pressure in the Straight as he had been challenged by PLANET GIANT to his outside for the major part of the Home Straight.

He said just prior to the finishing line he momentarily misjudged where the winning post was, however, very quickly became aware of this fact and recommenced riding his mount out all the way to the end of the race.

The Stewards, having considered the proximity of Apprentice Wong momentarily stopping riding his mount to the winning post and the fact that PLANET GIANT had established a margin over FAITHFUL BOY prior to this occurring, were satisfied that Apprentice Wong??s riding out of the horse over the concluding stages did not jeopardize its final placing.

Accordingly, no further action was taken, however, Apprentice Wong was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he rides his mounts out all the way to the end of the race so that his riding is not open to query.

Following this race, W M Lai was stood down by the Club??s doctors due to a right wrist injury.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that ATOMIC BLAST had sustained a minor wound to the outside of the left front cannon.

A veterinary inspection of SUPER SWEET ORANGE and TREASURE AND GOLD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SUPER SWEET ORANGE, ATOMIC BLAST and PLANET GIANT were sent for sampling.
