Recap by phillip woo
Plunged late, Midnight Rattler enjoyed a lovely run in the box-seat and just got up in a blanket finish for a second win from eight starts this term. He's not easy to get right but certainly has ability. California Whip rushed forward after a tardy break to park second in the run behind Lucky Girl, assumed the lead approaching the 300m and wouldn't go down without a fight. He's got points in hand and will be winning shortly at a mile and under. Firming late in betting, Lucky Year made it a thriller on the wire after taking until the 850m to slot one off with cover in fourth from a wide gate. He's certainly capable of a big run and the 10-pound claimer certainly helped on this occasion. People's Knight peaked on his run 50m out to just miss a placing after working to second 200m out travelling midfield. Prefer him on the dirt where he is unbeaten in two starts. Favourite Western Express didn't let down as expected after covering a bit of ground near the back. He'll have better days. Limitless made some ground without menacing after failing to settle near the back. He needs to take a chill pill to take the next step higher.
