Recap by phillip woo

Happy Journey finished boldly after going back from a tricky gate to grab victory in the shadows of the post with a return to the dirt and switch to a stronger rider. It wasn't a strong Class Four but he might remain competitive up in grade off a light weight on this surface. Starlot found one just too good after rallying from behind midfield to poke his head in front 20m out in a much-improved run at his seventh start. He'll need to prove this was no fluke. Smiling Glory defied a prominent run without cover to just miss second prize. It wasn't a surprise to see him run a big race after winning in September over this dirt trip off a higher mark but again, this was a weak contest. Actuariat was never better than four or five deep in the run without cover in midfield but kept on well enough to spice up the Quartet. It was clearly his best run in 15 starts but still looks destined for a Class Five stint. Dr Race looked the winner when hitting the front 300m out following a prominent run but was swamped in deep stretch. He isn't far off a bottom. Super Talent was short of room 100m out following a handy run. He had excuses as did favourite Bolshoi Ballet who wasn't properly tested inside the last 150m with a move from the rear.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (549)-MEI LAM HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Metres

Mr D J Hall, the trainer of BOLSHOI BALLET, informed the Stewards that having drawn the outside barrier, he believed that there were horses engaged in the race which had sufficient speed to make it particularly difficult for BOLSHOI BALLET to be able to cross and obtain a position close to the rail.

He said as he was concerned that BOLSHOI BALLET would be left racing wide and without cover making the first turn, he instructed Z Purton to shift BOLSHOI BALLET across behind runners and obtain inside runs if possible.

THE INVINCIBLE began only fairly.

SMILING GLORY shifted out at the start and bumped HORSE SURPEMO.

HAPPY JOURNEY was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.

FOREVER ACCURATE lost its right hind plate near the 1100 Metres.

Making the first turn near the 700 Metres, THE INVINCIBLE shifted out and bumped STARLOT, resulting in both horses becoming badly unbalanced.

Passing the 700 Metres, HORSE SUPREMO commenced to hang out and lost a considerable amount of ground.

Before being allowed to race again, HORSE SUPREMO will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial around a bend.

BOLSHOI BALLET was unable to obtain clear running over the final 100 Metres and consequently was not able to be properly tested.

Near the 50 Metres, SUPER TALENT got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of SMILING GLORY, resulting in SUPER TALENT having to be steadied away from the heels of SMILING GLORY.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that FOREVER ACCURATE had sustained a small wound to the inside of the left hind fetlock.

A veterinary inspection of FLYING GODSPELL and HORSE SUPREMO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

BOLSHOI BALLET, HAPPY JOURNEY and STARLOT were sent for sampling.
