Mr Picasso came on strongly following a rails run in midfield from the 700m after settling near the back from a wide gate to take control 200m out for a second win from eight starts. He's a quirky type but has always flashed the ability and should hold his own up in class off a lightweight. Mr Oriole held off favourite Jumbo Luck despite being hard ridden three deep without cover outside the leaders in a vastly-improved second-up effort. He did show improvement to win a recent trial and is headed in the right direction. Jumbo Luck closed off very well despite travelling no closer than four deep worse than midfield carrying top weight to just miss second. It was a terrific effort in defeat and he'll be shortly adding to a debut win. Regency Darling made a steady bid following a handy run to finish a non-threatening fourth. He's in the right grade now but may need to drop a few more points in the handicaps. Peace Combination lost a placing 60m out after dictating the run. He isn't easy to get right but is a versatile sprinter who doesn't look far off a winning run. Indigenous Star never really let down with cover three deep in midfield after an awkward break. He'll need more time.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (499)-HELENE MASCOT HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Metres

DAZZLE WINNER was slow to begin.

PEARL HARBOUR got its head up when being steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.

INDIGENOUS STAR began only fairly.

From the outside barrier, GOLDEN DEER was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Despite being ridden along in the early stages, FOREVER ACCURATE failed to muster speed.

Making the first turn near the 900 Metres, PADDINGTON raced tight between REGENCY DARLING and INDIGENOUS STAR which shifted in when racing keenly.

VIVA COUNCIL and PADDINGTON lay out making the Home Turn.

REGENCY DARLING was unable to obtain clear running until passing the 200 Metres.

Throughout the race, VIVA COUNCIL and MR ORIOLE travelled wide and without cover.

The performance of PEARL HARBOUR, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

As this was the second occasion that PEARL HARBOUR was tailed out in a race, the horse will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a series of consecutive barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that PEACE COMBINATION had bled from both nostrils.

JUMBO LUCK, MR PICASSO and MR ORIOLE were sent for sampling.
