Recap by phillip woo

In a wide-open market, post-time favourite Wayfoong Vinnie was suited by the faster pace with a step back in distance to come with a powerful move down the outside travelling third from the back to run down Diamond Master 20m out for a second win from his past four starts. He has the tools to head higher. Diamond Master worked to the front 150m out following a handy run along the fence and was only surprised late. He isn't far off a big payday after getting minor slices in four of five earlier sprints this term. Travel Comforts was on his tippy toes inside the last 100m after emerging with the lead from Ocean Roar 200m out and just held off E-Super by a whisker for a placing. It was a good run in defeat and he does seem to act very well under the guidance of claimer Kei Chiong ka-kei. E-Super closed off well from midfield to just miss a placing. The handicapper believes he has more to offer by only dropping him two points despite one placing from his opening five runs this term but again the big weight continues to be a hurdle. Thumped late in betting, Silver Spun closed off well near the inside from the back.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (495)-SHA WAN HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1000Metres

The Stewards tonight interviewed Trainer C S Shum regarding CHARITY GLORY (T302) being a pre-declaration withdrawal for this race due to being treated.

Also interviewed was Mr C Y Kwong, work rider allocated to Mr Shum's stable for the current season.

CHARITY GLORY was withdrawn from this race on Monday, 13 March 2017.

Mr Shum was found to have breached Rule 50(2) in that as the trainer of CHARITY GLORY, he did fail in his responsibility for all matters pertaining to the running of his stable and that CHARITY GLORY was treated with omeprazole on Monday, 13 March 2017 which necessitated the withdrawal of the horse from this race.

Mr Shum was fined the sum of $10,000.

The Stewards will inform Stables Management of Mr Kwong's role in this matter.

E-SUPER lost its left front plate at the start.

HONEST HORSE and TRAVEL SUCCESSOR began only fairly.

SILVER SPUN and E-SUPER bumped at the start.

A short distance later, SILVER SPUN was checked when crowded for room between E-SUPER and HAPPY METEOR which was bumped and taken out by BEAUTY MASTER which shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider.

After this, BEAUTY MASTER continued to shift out despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in HAPPY METEOR being checked away from the heels of BEAUTY MASTER approaching the 900 Metres.

From the outside barrier, WAYFOONG VINNIE was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.

Approaching the 800 Metres, MR RIGHT and HAPPY METEOR raced tight.

Approaching the 700 Metres, BEAUTY MASTER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MOMENT OF POWER which was racing tight inside OCEAN ROAR.

Passing the 200 Metres, MR RIGHT shifted in away from the heels of MOMENT OF POWER.

When questioned, T H So stated that it had been intended for MR RIGHT to be ridden behind the speed if possible.

He said it was felt that DIAMOND MASTER and TRAVEL COMFORTS, which had drawn inside MR RIGHT, would obtain forward positions and it was hoped that MR RIGHT may be able to obtain a trailing position behind those horses.

He said after steadying MR RIGHT in the early stages to race behind DIAMOND MASTER, MR RIGHT, despite being ridden along, did not show as much early speed as had been anticipated and because of this raced further back in the field than had been intended.

A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY MASTER, MOMENT OF POWER and OCEAN ROAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

WAYFOONG VINNIE and DIAMOND MASTER were sent for sampling.
