Recap by phillip woo

Late-fancied favourite Speedy Achiever clattered home after pulling out at the 300m following a one-off run behind midfield to mow down Game Of Fun in the final few metres for a maiden win at his 14th start. He had put the writing on the wall in three earlier runs but will need to lift on his past form in Class Three. Early favourite Game Of Fun dashed to the front 110m out following a one-out, one-back run and found one just too good in the end. He's caught the eye in back-to-back runs and will be saluting shortly. Ray Of Gold got up 20m out for a placing after a rail's run in midfield. He has been hitting the line well but keeps finding a few too good at this level. Young Empire kept on gamely following a box-seat run to just miss a placing in his best performance from 11 starts. He's on the right path now. Buddy Bundy was hard ridden to assume the lead 1,000m out, opening up by three lengths at one point, but was on his tippy toes 100m out. He's not genuine but can hang on at times. Pakistan Baby was getting going late when the race was all but over after a deep run travelling third from the rear from a wide gate. He's in the right grade and can pop up at any moment, especially if he draws a proper alley.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (386)-SHUI WO HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Metres

BONITO lost ground shortly after the start when steadied away from the heels of SPEEDY ACHIEVER which was taken out by GREAT TOPLIGHT which in turn was taken out by BUDDY BUNDY (Apprentice K K Chiong).

Apprentice Chiong was advised that in similar circumstances she would be expected to make more of an attempt to prevent her mounts from shifting ground than she did on this occasion.

From wide barriers, KIROV, VICTOR EMPEROR and PAKISTAN BABY were all steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.

Passing the 1100 Metres, SPEEDY ACHIEVER travelled keenly when being steadied to obtain a position with cover behind GREAT TOPLIGHT.

GREAT TOPLIGHT got its head on the side and made the first turn after the 1000 Metres awkwardly.

For some distance after the 900 Metres, VICTOR EMPEROR travelled keenly and got its head up on a number of occasions.

Near the 850 Metres, ST YAZIN momentarily raced tight inside SPEEDY ACHIEVER which got its head on the side and shifted in.

After the 800 Metres, PAKISTAN BABY was left racing wide and without cover.

At the entrance to the Straight, SPEEDY ACHIEVER was shifted out away from the heels of GREAT TOPLIGHT which was taken wider by RAY OF GOLD (H W Lai).

H W Lai was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

After the 200 Metres, YOUNG EMPIRE raced with its head on the side and was reluctant to shift to the outside of BUDDY BUNDY.

Then near the 150 Metres, YOUNG EMPIRE and FOREVER FUN bumped due to YOUNG EMPIRE shifting out marginally and FOREVER FUN shifting in away from GAME OF FUN.

After this, YOUNG EMPIRE lay in towards BUDDY BUNDY when racing in restricted room inside the heels of GAME OF FUN.

Close to the finishing line, VICTOR EMPEROR and GREAT TOPLIGHT raced tight.

When questioned, Apprentice K K Chiong stated that although BUDDY BUNDY established a margin over the field after the 900 Metres, she felt as though the tempo of the race at this time was not particularly quick and as she had been asked not to restrain the horse in the lead, she did not feel it was necessary to steady BUDDY BUNDY given the manner in which the race was being run.

As the Stewards were satisfied that the sectional times supported Apprentice Chiong's assessment of the pace during the early and middle stages of the race, no further action was taken.

SPEEDY ACHIEVER and GAME OF FUN were sent for sampling.
